Susan joined Dover Court from Coombe Girls’ School in Kingston Upon Thames, UK, having taught English there for 6 years. Within this community Susan enjoyed a variety of roles such Deputy Head of Year, House Coordinator, and also enjoyed writing and directing the 6th Form Panto every year. This was particularly rewarding for her as she is passionate about performance and awakening the creativity of her students.
Susan is a keen traveller and has always dreamed of continuing her teaching in an international setting. Prior to her career in education Susan was a successful HR Manager working within the professional services sector. However, she happily swapped the corporate lifestyle for the classroom, completing a Secondary English PGCE in April 2012 through the School Direct route at Newman University, Birmingham.
Susan’s studies were perfect for her as her experience of analysing and interpreting meaning in film and plays has been easily transferable when teaching English. Her business background has also enabled her to support older students with career skills such as CV writing, UCAS applications and interview practice.
Outside school, Susan enjoys travelling and is a keen runner. She also loves to sing and was part of a choir in the UK performing in numerous shows (including a TV advert!). However, she prefers singing in a group rather than solo as in her case she believes that enthusiasm counts for more than skill!
