Sophia Barker graduated from Leeds University with BA (Hons) in Classical Civilisation. She went on to study Primary Education at Kingston University, London graduating with a PGCE in General Primary (5- 11 years).

After qualifying as a teacher Sophia went on to work in a Year 2 classroom at a private day school in West London, to later take on the role as Charities Coordinator. Sophia moved schools, staying in West London and working as a Preparatory School Teacher. She taught maths, science, humanities and English to Years 4, 5 and 6. During her time at this school she was a House Coordinator, organising events, enjoying and embracing the opportunity to get to know the wider school community. Sophia is now joining us from Hong Kong. She has spent five years teaching as a founding member of staff at an IB World School, teaching in both Year 2 and Year 4 classrooms. During this time, she has relished developing her skills and knowledge by working in an international community, learning from staff and students. She was an active and leading member of the Maths Committee and has recently helped to develop a schoolwide problem-solving process for students.

It is through these different teaching experiences that Sophia has developed her approach to learning and teaching. Ensuring that all children feel happy, successful and self-aware of both their academic and personal growth.

Sophia is passionate about movement and enjoys sharing this passion and interest with her students. Most recently she founded a school community running club, bringing together students, teachers, and parents. When she isn’t in school teaching, she is either enjoying trying new foods, exploring, exercising, and enjoying time with friends.
