Simon Woodhall

7SW form tutor, Secondary Global Campus Champion and Geography teacher
Simon-Woodhall

A teacher of geography at Dover Court, Simon gained his geography degree at the University of Leicester, and he took a year out to experience backpacking around the USA to further his experiences of cultural development prior to entering teaching. He completed his PGCE in 2009 at the University of Leicester and worked for three years in an inner-city school in the city.

During this time, Simon redesigned the KS3 programme of study for geography and worked with a cross-city project to bring together children from different cultural and religious backgrounds – something that set him up well for teaching in a multicultural community!

After a couple of years of working in schools in Derby, England and back in his homeland of Wales, an opportunity arose to work at Dover Court. This was something not to be turned down and would give him further chances to teach, travel and experience life within different cultures. It also gave him the opportunity to work with students from diverse backgrounds and alongside students with individual needs. Simon believes that all learners, despite their ability, should have access to a diverse curriculum with a growth mindset at its core.

Simon feels an integral part of being a subject specialist within geography is to be able to show a passion for the world we live in and experience what we can. These lived experiences add further dynamics to the information he shares with his students and brings the subject to life!

Calling Singapore his home now, travelling is his one true passion in life. His favourite country for travel so far has been Sri Lanka, with its vibrant culture the main attraction. Beyond that he tries to participate in outdoor activities; he has completed many of the peaks in his ‘home’ area of Snowdonia, Wales. He has shared his passion with the students by leading two trips to Switzerland. Keeping with the mountain theme, he regularly attends climbing gyms here in Singapore to hone his bouldering techniques and can be found exploring the local parks at weekends.
