Robert Hill

11RH form tutor and Mathematics teacher
Robert Hill

Mr Hill graduated from the University of Teesside in 2003 with a BA(Hons) in Business Management and went on to complete a Graduate Training Programme in Mathematics with the University of Sunderland and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education with the University of Northampton. He has been teaching Mathematics since 2006.

Mr Hill began his teaching career in a school in a deprived area of the Northeast of England. This proved to be a formative period during which he developed a passion for helping raise attainment amongst some of the country’s most disaffected students and instilling a lasting belief in inclusivity. In 2010, Mr Hill accepted his first international posting in Bangkok, Thailand, where he spent six enjoyable years and it was here where he was provided his first opportunity to lead a Mathematics Faculty. He has since gone on to teach at successful international schools in Egypt and Indonesia.

Mr Hill’s teaching practice is heavily influenced by the core principle of positive education. He believes that in practising a combination of patience, compassion and belief, students of all abilities will be afforded the opportunity to flourish in the classroom. His belief is that the mathematics classroom should not simply be a place whereby curriculum knowledge is imparted, but rather it should act as a hub for developing in students the character traits that will be vital towards them leading happy and successful futures; resilience, self-belief, growth-mindset and a love for learning.

Outside of the classroom, Mr Hill has a passion for travel, sports and music, listed in order of successful achievement in each field. His traveling has taken him to six of the seven continents, and he thrives on experiencing rich and varied cultures, customs and languages. He enjoys most sports but particularly football, tennis and surfing. He is an enthusiastic guitar player, to the annoyance of his long-suffering wife and son, and he enjoys listening to music from a variety of genres and eras.
