Jonathan Shannon graduated from Heriot-Watt University with a degree in Applied Psychology. Following this, he went on to study at the London Diocese Board of School PGCE programme to gain his teaching qualification.

Jonathan was born in Northern Ireland, then moved to London to work as a teacher after completing his degree. During his seven years working at two different schools in London – both ranked in the top 10% nationally for progress – he honed his skills with a vast amount of training in Talk for Writing, applying reasoning to Mathematics, Making Thinking Visible and much more. This experience led to him taking leadership roles in those schools as Coordinator of P.E. and Coordinator of Science. After this, he spent three years in Hong Kong teaching at an international school where was again involved in developing whole-school improvement.

Seeking to maximise the students’ potential, Jonathan employs a wide range of techniques, strategies and technologies to maximise student engagement and enjoyment in their lessons. He put a strong focus on students taking responsibility of their own learning and works to develop a class culture in which students raise their own self-expectations through guided peer discussion and positive reinforcement.

In his spare time, Jonathan enjoys playing any variety of sport. He plays football competitively and has recently taken up golf. He thrives in the outdoors and enjoys travelling to destinations where he can hike and explore.
