Mr Bicker-Caarten graduated from Hertfordshire University majoring in Literature as part of a Humanities BA and completed his post-graduate teaching qualification in Italy and becoming a qualified European Language and Literature teacher and subsequently gaining UK qualified teacher status.
Mr Bicker-Caarten is an experienced teacher who graduated from Hertfordshire University majoring in Literature as part of a Humanities BA, going on to take his post-graduate teaching qualification in Italy and becoming a qualified European Language and Literature teacher and subsequently gaining UK qualified teacher status.
Mr Bicker-Caarten believes in student-centred learning with a focus on the classroom as a place of learning, fun and creativity – sharing his love of words and the transformative nature of literature. Mr Bicker-Caarten encourages his students to enter writing competitions and takes great pleasure in seeing their confidence grow when they get published! He shares his love of reading, drama and analysis to stimulate empathy and critical thinking.
He is an advocate of collaborative learning with the students making explicit links between cross-curricular subjects and the real world. Mr Bicker-Caarten has been the Extended Essay coordinator and supervised Language A, Language B and World Studies Extended Essays as well as participating in both academic and pastoral leadership.
Mr Bicker-Caarten is a keen sports person believing in ‘Healthy body Healthy mind’; he has continued this passion by sports coaching at school from swimming and badminton to athletics. A keen paraglider pilot (83rd pilot to fly over 100km in the UK), skier and walker; Mr Bicker-Caarten believes in the importance of being attuned to nature. He has accompanied a myriad of cross-curricular and sporting school trips and has worked closely with the wider community providing real-life learning experiences for the students.
Outside of school, Mr Bicker-Caarten is a family man, a lover of travel and enjoys socialising – recognising that Singapore is the perfect country for his interests and that Dover Court offers a shared love of lifelong learning.
