Eliza Gilchrist

7EG form tutor, French and Spanish teacher
Eliza Gilchrist

Miss Gilchrist studied French and Spanish at the University of Exeter and then went on to the University of Cambridge to do her MFL teacher training PGCE. She has also just completed her Master’s of Education at the University of Cambridge, focusing her dissertation on Year 9 boys’ attitudes and mindsets to French listening tasks, which she found fascinating.

Miss Gilchrist is particularly interested in using technology to enhance language learning and in how language learning strategies can help to make students more confident in listening and speaking French and Spanish. Over the past few years of working in the UK she has loved her time teaching Year 7 – Year 13 in both French and Spanish, as well as her job as a Year 7 form tutor. In her free time, she has also been trying to learn Italian on Duolingo as well, but that is very much a work in progress! A particular highlight of this past year was going paddle boarding on a 6th form camping trip in Norfolk, and she hopes to be able to run and attend language-related trips in the future too.

Miss Gilchrist grew up in Hong Kong, where she went to a French Primary school and a Chinese Secondary school with her twin brother (although her Chinese is a bit rusty nowadays!). She is a sports fanatic and frequently competes in running races, triathlon events and netball matches. She loves spending time outdoors and travelling; having also lived in Mallorca and Madrid during her third year of university when she completed her year abroad.
