Mx Handy completed a BSc (Hons) in Sports Development & Coaching from Sheffield Hallam University in 2002, before briefly moving to the US as a Player Development Officer, Coach and Trainer for a club in Massachusetts. After spending 3 years as a Sports Development Officer in some of the most deprived wards in the UK, Mx Handy completed their PGCE at Sheffield Hallam University in 2006. Mx Handy’s teaching career began in the UK as a PE Teacher & School Sports Coordinator, spending 5 years working in challenging state schools and Behavioural, Emotional and Social Disorder Schools before moving internationally. They have since worked throughout Asia in outstanding British Curriculum Schools in Abu Dhabi, Thailand and China. Since working Internationally, Mx Handy gained experience as Head of PE & Athletics Director, but has truly thrived in a variety of pastoral roles, including Head of Year, Head of House and Boarding House Coordinator. Mx Handy’s pedagogical philosophy is based around the development of the whole child, promoting international mindedness and a growth mindset. They believe that the most positive change occurs outside of our comfort zones and therefore encourages young people to take risks in both their academic learning and their wider holistic development through offering a variety of opportunities such as the International Award and overseas residentials including Skiing, Adventure and Service trips. In their spare time, Mx Handy loves participating and competing in a variety of sports, particularly football and basketball. They are a Mental Health and Gender Equality advocate, achieving 4 World Records with an organization called Equal Playing Field, promoting gender equality in football. Mx Handy is also a huge fan of musical theatre and spoken word poetry, competing in slam competitions across the UK, Asia and Australia and spends holidays developing culture specific curriculums for NGOs, schools, and orphanages in developing countries.
