David Burren gained a First Class Honours Degree with Qualified Teacher Status from St Mary’s University, London in 2000.

Before joining Dover Court, David worked as Deputy Principal at a fully inclusive, high performing Secondary school in East Sussex, with over 1700 students. During his three years at the school, it consistently performed in the top 20% of all schools nationally for GCSE results and the top 10% of all schools nationally for A level results.

David's first 16 years in teaching were spent at a wide ability secondary school and specialist sports college in Kent. During this time the school received three ‘Outstanding’ Ofsted gradings.

David has experience leading a wide range of school priorities including, Child Protection and Safeguarding, Pastoral Care and Wellbeing, Teaching and Learning,  Staff Development, Key Stage 2 to 3 Transition and Whole School Curriculum Planning. David has always worked closely with the highly respected SEN departments in his previous schools and has many years experience supporting students with additional learning needs and disabilities.

Committed to his own professional development throughout his career David has, as well as gaining an MA in Leadership, also completed training as a ‘Specialist Leader of Education’ and a facilitator for the ‘National Professional Qualification for Middle Leaders’.

David has always looked to promote Global Citizenship and has taken part in a wide variety of international trips with students, including Switzerland, New Zealand, Thailand, Malaysia and France. He enjoys being active and playing a variety of different sports. His love of nature and the outdoors is something that he enjoys sharing with his wife and three young children. In Spring 2019 David completed the ‘3 Peaks Challenge’, by climbing the three highest peaks in the UK within 24 hours.

David is passionate about educating young people and supporting them to achieve their potential. He is proud to be part of the caring, inclusive and diverse community at Dover Court.
