TEACHERS & STAFF

Dan Franklin

Deputy Head – Whole School Educational Technology
Dan-Franklin

Dan’s initial degree was a BA Hons degree in English & Literary Studies and Sport Studies from the University of Worcester. Following a number of summers working on summer camp in America, he returned to the University of Worcester to complete a PGCE in Primary Teaching which he completed in 2010 with Masters credits.

During his PGCE, one of his placements was in a school local to where he grew up in Halesowen, just on the outskirts of Birmingham. He was lucky enough to begin his teaching career there and stayed for three years as a Year 6 teacher. Moving internationally, he gained a job at British International School of Houston where he has enjoyed a number of teaching and leadership positions over eight years.

Daniel believes that the curriculum should be an ever-evolving framework that is reflective of the cultural and social experiences of the learners who will be immersed in it. Students should be active collaborators and learners whose voice is not only heard but respected and reacted to. Both academic and non-academic progress are equally important and capturing and celebrating this is something that Daniel is passionate about. He is also an advocate for the effective use of technology within the learning journey and the role it can have to transform learning experiences. He has experience of leading both of his former schools through technology acquisition, deployment and strategic development. Throughout this, his focus for staff, student and parent learning is to understand how to move from engagement to empowerment or introduction to independence when using a device as a tool within learning.

Outside of school, he enjoys spending time with his wife, daughter and two dogs and is very much looking forward to exploring Singapore and other parts of this side of the world. He has played competitive football at various levels since the age of nine and still enjoys lacing up his boots but is equally at home on the golf course and, when possible, enjoys exploring new courses and getting away from everything for a number of hours.
