The Doverian since Year 6 expresses her commitment to being a voice for students and fostering greater engagement by conducting student surveys. She emphasises on the importance of ensuring that the Student Leadership team genuinely reflects the student body.
“I want to ensure the Student Leadership team truly represents the student body by engaging more with our students' ideas and feedback,” she says. When asked to highlight a crucial leadership skill, she says every leader should possess the ability to be vocal, communicate clearly, and express their opinions fearlessly.
She believes that effective communication is key to successful leadership. Developing soft skills is a significant aspect of the educational experience at Dover Court. This is facilitated through both academic activities and initiatives like changemakers and through sports. As an active member of the DCIS Wolves basketball and netball teams, she shares how sports have impacted her leadership growth.
“Sports requires effective communication and collaboration skills, especially when providing feedback to teammates and collaborating with individuals from various Year Groups,” she says.
Beyond events like Drop Down Day and house activities, Olivia highlights how Dover Court has nurtured her leadership skills. During classroom activities involving group work, she consistently takes the initiative to lead or actively participate, serving as the voice for the group. “The inclusive and diverse environment at DCIS has shaped me into the kind and respectful individual I am today,” she continues.
Some Dover Court values she believes she embodies are creativity, kindness and resilience.
“When running and campaigning for Student Council, I thought of creative initiatives and ideas that are fun. I’m also kind and like to bring out the best in people. I also show resilience as a student in my studies. Even though I may not always get the best mark in Maths, I’m determined to work towards my goals.”
