Year 6 girls Emily and Becky were upset to find the beaches filled with rubbish on their holiday and decided to do something about it.
Emily and Becky went to Bintan during the Easter holiday together with their families. The girls decided to walk along the beach to explore the island a bit more, but instead of pristine beaches they found rubbish laying around everywhere.
The girls went back to their resort and got some big bin bags and managed to fill four bags, so big that they had to drag them back to the hotel. The main part of the rubbish consisted of plastic bottles, there were also lots of tar, both on the beach and in the water and some big metal pieces, too heavy to carry.
This is not the first time Emily and Becky have helped cleaning up beaches and they have a very important message to share - Please always bring your own water bottle to fill up instead of buying plastic ones. If you have to drink bottled water, make sure the bottle is put in the bin when it's finished. We only have one planet and we have to take care of it now, before it is too late!
