We want to take a moment to highlight the incredible teachers who make our school such a special place! Our educators come from diverse backgrounds, bringing unique experiences, talents, and passion to the classroom every day.
Meet Maylee Garcia, one of our dedicated teachers, whose journey has taken her from Nebraska to Costa Rica. Read on to learn more about her story, what she loves about teaching, and how she’s embraced life abroad!
Hey CDS Community! My name is Maylee Garcia. I’m 26 years old, Mexicana-Americana, and I grew up in Ogallala, Nebraska. I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and I spent three years teaching in Nebraska before taking the exciting leap to teach abroad. Teaching is my passion, and I’m fortunate to do what I love no matter where I am.
I’d describe myself as an “introverted extrovert.” While I tend to be a little reserved at first, once you get to know me, I’m a social butterfly! I’m easygoing, always open to hanging out, and I love having a good time. I’m also a big fan of the outdoors, singing, dancing, reading, and playing sports—basically, anything that lets me connect with people.
Although being away from my family and home has had its challenges, my students and the staff here have become my Costa Rican family. Their love and support have made this experience incredibly special.
