OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM

At our international Elementary School in Costa Rica, our 1st through 5th grade students enjoy a myriad of opportunities to explore their interests, develop their knowledge, and fulfil their unique potential – not only academically, but also physically, socially, and creatively. As active participants in learning, our children develop the skills, confidence, and attitudes needed to become independent, lifelong learners.

ABOUT OUR ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CURRICULUM

In line with US Common Core State Standards, we deliver a rigorous, standards-based Elementary School curriculum of the highest quality.

As well as teaching the core subjects of math, science, language arts, and social studies, we provide an exceptional education in specialist areas such as art, Spanish, music, and physical education. We also offer English as a second language for students who need additional support.

All our classes and activities are carefully planned to meet key developmental stages. We also nurture our students’ character and values through dedicated sessions. Our goal is to meet the individual needs of each child, ensuring their personal development. Every month, for example, we hold an Elementary School assembly that promotes a specific character trait.

At our thriving Elementary School in San Jose, Costa Rica, we know how important it is to recognize our students’ achievements – and to provide opportunities to showcase their talents. A STRONG PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN HOME AND SCHOOL

The foundation of student success is an effective partnership between home and school.

We work closely with our families to ensure they are involved in their child’s Elementary School learning journey, whether that’s by providing regular progress updates or encouraging parental involvement in school activities. These include our Back-to-School Picnic, Fun Run, special reading program, and class get-togethers.

PLAYGROUND ADVENTURES
As we receive warm greetings from staff and our Elementary School counselor, we excitedly catch up with friends and play on the playground together before classes start. This is an important time to get warmed up, as we check in with each other socially and emotionally.

We use recess and lunch time to connect with friends, refuel, and explore our interests in a free-form way. For example, after we eat, we may visit the makerspace and participate in the MIT Lego challenge or practice our instrument in the band room.

SWIMMING STROKES
At CDS, we jump right in! We use different strokes and explore techniques of water polo in the pool to get better at our teamwork, alongside our swim instructor and PE teacher.
