Words for Secondary

Words from Secondary - Words from Secondary

We are very excited for the upcoming week in the Secondary! Valentine’s Day will include Mariachi Bands, serenatas, a photo booth, and lots of fun! The High School will be sending fan buses to AASCA on Thursday and our kick-off assembly for High School Junior scheduling will be on Friday.

Scheduling for Juniors will begin in the next couple of weeks. Each student will have an audit meeting with Mr. De Vega (College Counselor) to discuss their future plans and what courses best fit that plan. They will then make a request of what courses they would like to take. Here are a couple of notes for parents to be aware of regarding scheduling:

  • Not all courses on the Course Catalog will run next year. Whether a course runs will be dependent on the number of students who sign up for it.
  • Students will not necessarily be able to take every course they request, even if it does run. Courses will be filled by the oldest students first. Also, scheduling conflicts will often require students to choose which of two courses they would like to take when they are in the same period.
  • Students will be recommended for AP courses based on the following criteria: Predictors that are set by College Board based on their last PSAT assessment, Approaches to Learning scores, Grades.
  • Parents are invited to the audit meeting. If a parent does not attend, they will be sent a copy of the student’s requests. Parents who wish to make changes to those requests will need to reach out to Mr. De Vega.

From our College Counselor, Mr. de Vega

Next week we will have the visit of Dr. Andrea Maldonado, representative of National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC). She will be sharing some time with students and parents on Thursday, February 16th, from 9:20 am to 10:00 am, in the Curassow Room (LRC). So, drop by if you want to know more about pre college summer programs.

CDS is the most competitive school in the region. We aim to provide the best resources for all of our students. This is why, starting this year, our 8th grade students will be taking the PSAT 8/9. The 8th grade students will take the test on Wednesday, March 15, from 8 am to 11 am. If you have any questions please reach out and let me know.
