Jose Luis Menendez
Secondary Principal
Dear Families,
We have entered the final stretch of the semester. We have less than 8 weeks left until our holiday break and I’m sure many of you will be looking forward to having your children putting away screens for a while. I think we all need the break. Our next time to do that will be over the Thanksgiving break!
The faculty and staff are preparing for having students on campus in the hopes of being cleared by the Ministry of Health to re-open next semester. We moved a little closer last week with the Ministry approving the health and safety protocols that need to be in place, which we have. We are working on what our hybrid model will look like as we have had to make some adjustments as we continue to learn more about best practices in bringing students back to campus.
Don’t forget to click through the Secondary section pertinent house related information.
Onward and Upward,
JLM
No video update this week...will be back next week with a new video update.
Attendance
This is just a reminder of the importance of having students coming to class at home. Students lose important time and information when students are not logging in to their classes. As a reminder to parents, please check in on your students to ensure that they are not only logged into classes but also engaged in the classes.
It is also important that students keep their cameras on during class. As we have said from the beginning, part of our virtual experience is to have students engaging with each other and seeing each other online. Cameras being off diminishes the experiences of our students engaging with each other. Thank you for partnering with us and speaking to your students about attending all classes and keeping cameras turned on.
Mark your calendars: Teacher Appreciation Drive-Thru Nov. 18
Secondary parent reps are planning a teacher appreciation drive-thru November 18 after school. Stay tuned for communication from parents on what the afternoon will look like. We will be ending classes early so students will be able to come to campus and greet teachers.
No new information this week particularly for the Middle School.
Happenings in the HS
Seniors in AP Literature and Composition continue to grapple with complexities in Toni Morrison’s Pulitzer Prize winning novel Beloved. This week we evaluated how key passages reveal themes and allude to the conflicts developing in the story. We also analyzed the way in which literary elements are employed to highlight key relationships in the text.
