At the start of the school year, all Years 3-6 students took part in an amazing one-day team building adventure. The trip is located at Huairou Sun Valley, a beautiful lake that is nestled in between mountains and is the perfect place for students to take part in water sports and get to know each other better.
Year 6
The Year 6 Team building trip was on 6th September was a great way to kick off the new school year for all the students, great fun was had by all. Some found it a challenge, but it was fantastic to see them work together to achieve success.
Jaden stated, “When I was on the “Stand Up Paddle” SUP with my friend, I saw him diving into the water and said, ‘That is so cool!’ Therefore I wanted to dive into the water too. I bravely dived into the water and thought, I succeeded. At that moment I was so happy to get into the water.”
It was a great day to be active in nature, with Camilla commenting on how much she enjoyed the mountains, blue sky and big sun.
Michelle had similar thoughts to a lot of the children, “Bumping into each other on the kayaks was fun, standing up on the SUP and falling in the water was a highlight and it was great to be able to talk to friends while enjoying snacks and the delicious lunch.”
Update from Mr. Chad Hayward, Head of Year 6
Year 3
Students went on their Team Building Day on 7th September. One of the first activities they had a go at was Stand Up Paddle Boarding - students loved balancing on the boards and trying to stand up without falling in!
We were accompanied by Hutong instructors, and we enjoyed wearing our life jackets and learning about these new skills.
After a delicious lunch, Year 3 then had a go at kayaking and paddled around the lake looking at the beautiful surroundings. When they were confident, they then played games like catch and races. It was a great opportunity to try new skills and get to know everyone in the year group.
Please see comments from our Year 3 students:
"My favourite thing was learning to SUP - I've never done anything like this!"
"I enjoyed spending time with my friends in the whole year group - I didn't know lots of them before."
"I liked seeing Mr Casey fall in the water!"
"I learnt how to be safe in the water. My life jacket had to be really tight and the instructors looked after us."
