BISB Snowsports Expedition: Adventures in the Swiss Alps

1

Earlier this year, we had the pleasure of participating in the Nord Anglia Snowsport Expedition in the breathtaking region of Villars-sur-Ollon, in the Swiss Alps. This was the very first year our school organised an expedition like this, so it was definitely a one-of-a-kind experience. We arrived full of excitement to take over the slopes, yet a bit cautious. Most of us weren’t particularly close before this trip, but by the first evening in the chalet, that changed completely.

Friendships, snow, endless hot chocolate, and intense games of Charades would best describe our week in the Alps. A good conversation on the plane, at dinner, or laughing together after a long day of skiing/snowboarding had brought us all closer together - teachers included. Every day, we got to enjoy the wonderful scenery surrounding us -on the bus, on the ski lift, on the slopes, and even through the windows of the chalet. The weather conditions were truly perfect, so all of us had to make sure to apply SPF, no matter where we were.

Our wonderfully equipped instructors always made sure to take us on slopes we never expected, which eventually boosted our confidence - although at first, it definitely left us with a few bruises. Without our instructors’ constant encouragement, we wouldn’t have gained such incredible experiences, professional advice, and training, as well as memories that still make us laugh to this day.

One day, we took a bit of a detour and visited the Cailler chocolate factory, but that wasn’t the only place we could enjoy a cup of hot chocolate. We had an endless supply of it at the chalet, of which we took full advantage! And since we didn’t have our devices on us, we were all able to focus on other things - like our newly discovered love for Charades. Everyone was playing nearly every evening, with teachers teaming up with students, and it most likely became one of the favourite memories for everyone who participated.

This trip really showed us what true resilience and teamwork looks like, and we would like to thank all of our wonderful teachers who made it happen -Ms Kelly, Ms Croft, Mr Puskas, and Mr Swaine.
