Year 10 Service-Learning Action Week This week, Year 10’s investigation into the topic of the unhoused in relation to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 and 11 has culminated in a week of student-led, informed action.

This week, Year 10’s investigation into the topic of the unhoused in relation to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 and 11 has culminated in a week of student-led, informed action.

Year 10 Kontiki has been collecting women’s products for the Budapest Bike Maffia’s #longlivethegirls campaign to support unhoused women; Year 10 Endeavour organised a stationery and school supplies drive on behalf of Wesley Janos, a local kindergarten for unhoused children, as well as holding educational workshops for Year 6; Year 10 Discovery also worked in Primary, creating educational comics and planning paired reading sessions with classes across Years 1-4, and Year 10 Calypso have been raising awareness for the Világszép Foundation, an organisation that supports youth exiting the foster care system to prevent youth homelessness. Thank you to everyone involved in making the week a success, particularly our Year 10 Project Managers: Alex, Annamaria, Tamika, Dora and Max.

Service-Learning helps develop the key drivers of wellbeing: social connectedness, gratitude, autonomy and feelings of competence. Additional benefits include improved attitudes to self, school, learning and community and the development of critical thinking skills and emotional intelligence. In the coming weeks, Year 8 will start their Service-Learning project on the theme of helping the environment thrive.
