Recently we interviewed Dheer Aditya about his graphic illustrations to find out more about his inspirations, development and art style.

How did you develop your own unique style of illustration?

I remember when I was young I was attracted to colours. My parents bought me some basic colouring books which helped me gain more interest in colouring. When I was three, my mom, my dad and my aunt helped me to learn how to draw. Then, I started watching YouTube videos related to art. I tried to copy the artwork that was easy for me and then I began to draw the artwork that was much difficult. Later, when I gained confidence, I started to draw from my own imagination. It was not good at first, but eventually I did get better and now my results are in front of you.

You love to use lots of vibrant colours. Is your choice of colour inspired by your own personality or character?

I use vibrant colours because firstly, I can’t stick to only using one side of the colour pallet, it becomes boring and the end results don’t satisfy me. Secondly, I really like rainbows and want the colours in my drawing to kind of match it as well and glow up when I finish them.

I see you have taken many symbols from popular culture. What symbols do you find interesting to draw and why?

I use a mixed variety of symbols that are either really different or detailed. I like to draw detailed drawings. Even if the line art I use isn’t as detailed, I take my pen and start adding details to it. Doodle art is very detailed as there are many little characters and things on a piece of paper. Other than doodles, I also like to draw characters with detailed hair, clothing, shoes and accessories.

What Art materials do you use in your work and how did you learn to use these materials?

I use special markers (which are alcohol-based) as they are able to blend really easily and gives good results. I also like to use Faber-Castel colour pencils. I learnt to use how to blend both of them from YouTube tutorials and my parents helped me to use them in the beginning.

What advice would you give to another student who wanted to develop their own style?

For anyone who wants to draw I would say that you draw no matter how good or bad your work is. If you are thinking about giving up on art because the first few drawings you drew are not so good then think about it for a minute. If possible, ask an artist how much time did it took for him or her to get so good. Just try drawing for six months, draw anything every week. At the end of six months of drawing, look at the first piece that you drew. If you think you have improved within six months, imagine what you can do after a year or two.

From talking with Dheer it is clear to see how he has developed as an artist over time. His wonderful illustrations are vibrant and exciting. Dheer has a clear talent, and we are excited to see what wonderful illustrations he will complete in the future.
