Join our Open Morning for Years 1 and 2
Friday’s Year 7 and Year 10 Slam Poetry Virtual Workshops, led by renowned poet Harry Baker, rounded off what has been a tremendous week in the English department. Students in these years wrote and performed their own original slam poems, and were given feedback by Harry.
Each day started with activities to do in registration time created by the Muse team of student journalists. Competitions such as creating a diorama of a literary text, writing a mini-saga, the extreme reading challenge, and a short story competition designed by our department prefects have kept students engaged whether they are physically in school or participating virtually.
Wednesday’s Spelling Bee saw the atrium buzzing with activity with a tense head to head at the end. One fixed feature was the Poetree where staff and students hang their favourite book titles and lines from literature. Thursday's Dress Up Day was also great fun with the English Department coming as an array of characters from a novel studied in Year 8, The Hunger Games.
On the Thursday of English Week, we usually host the Boscars but have had to delay until Wednesday, 9th March due to many Year 9 students being in Virtual School. Watch this space to find out the shortlist and winners.
Congratulations to the competition winners so far:
Diorama: Tuuli from Year 9 for Hamilton
Spelling Bee: Corin from Year 7
All in all, it has been a fantastic week aided by the great support from staff, students, the MAC team, Miki and Gabor and his team. We look forward to planning it for next year.
