A Date for Your Diary: Secondary School Production of Arthur Miller’s The Crucible

This year’s production takes us to the newly established colonial town of Salem in Massachusetts in 1692. Miller’s biting satirical drama not only details the madness that envelopes a religious community, but comments on any society gripped by intolerance and unthinking orthodoxy.

Congratulations to the following students who have successfully auditioned for a part in the play:

• Misha Abramovich will play the Reverend Samuel Parris, a man who tries to unite his congregation after several teenage girls are found dancing in the woods.
• Chi Zhang will play his daughter Betty Parris who seems to be possessed by spirits.
• Valentina Pinto takes on the challenging role of Tituba, the Parris’ servant who is blamed for communicating with the dark side.
• Anna Dudas-Hjelms’ role will be Abigail Williams, the niece of Parris and the instigator of all the troubles that follow.
• Jingyuan Liu and Maria Fokshek are wealthy land-owners in the characters of Thomas and Ann Putnam and out for revenge and power.
• Mercy Lewis will be portrayed by Eszter Sranko who together with Sara Romai, playing Mary Warren, do the bidding of Abigail.
• In the midst of this hysteria stands Manuel Elikishvili as John Proctor and his wife Elizabeth brought to the stage by Shreya Seshan.
• The voice of experience and reason is embodied in Olivia O’Dowd, who plays Goodwife Rebecca Nurse.
• Szonja Torok as Reverend John Hale and Jay Koulaouzos as Deputy-governor Danforth are brought in to sort things out and rid Salem of its “witches”.

Performance dates are Monday 9^th and Tuesday 10^th December 2019.
