On 8th January 2019, students from Year 7-10 who take Hungarian had the chance to listen to a presentation by guest speaker Ms Nikolett F. Gulyas from Eötvös Loránd University. The presentation was based on her research and personal experience from her time in Khanty–Mansi Autonomous Okrug (a rural area in Siberia).

Students learnt about the relationship between the Hungarian and Khanty language as well as about the traditional Khanty lifestyle. Additionally, they learnt some basic vocabulary, listened to Khanty music and looked at hand-made objects to familiarise themselves with the everyday life of Khanty people.

What our students learnt:

"Khanty also belongs to the Finno-Ugric language family. Khanty people are poor and when they kill a bear they have a ritual that lasts for 4 or 5 days. " Maja Tamas

"Khanty people are not very rich. They often build their houses next to lakes." Benedek Gazso

"The capital of the territory is called Khanty-Mansiysk.  Not all the Khanty people speak the Khanty language anymore." Alex Lavenut
