Technology for learning Find out more about our Technology in Learning Plan! Our First Technology for Learning evening was held on Wednesday 17th September. It was very helpful for us to be able to engage with our parents and discuss our plan for using technology to enhance and transform learning. For those of you who were not able to attend, the roll out of our 1-to-1 device programme will happen in stages over the coming 4 to 6 weeks.

Throughout last academic year, we embarked on a process of creating a new strategic plan, which guides the educational direction of the school over the next 5 years. As part of that plan, we set ourselves the following challenge:

The British International School, Budapest is a very successful school with high standards and examination results at all levels. We must strive to continually improve these since they provide the vital pathway to further educational opportunities for our students. At the same time, we have a duty to prepare our students for their fast-changing, globally connected, technology-rich future. We must help our children develop the contemporary Values, Attitudes and Attributes (VAAs) that prepare them to be successful in this world.

A very important aspect identified in our plan is the importance of technology in the future of our students' lives. We need to ensure that our students are digitally literate and prepared for their future, and even more importantly; we need to use technology to help enhance and transform learning.

The following is a reminder of the plan by year group. The aim is to have this in place by the end of September (giving us time to get the new year underway first). This also allows parents of students in KS3 time to obtain an iPad. Please note that the school will also have several iPads that students in KS3 can use at anytime if they do not yet have one of their own.

 

Early Years:

Class sets of iPads will be available for children to use as the teacher feels helpful and appropriate.

Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2:

1-to-1 iPads for all children. These will be purchased and supplied by the school. They will be based in class and will be used and sent home for homework, at the teacher's discretion

Key Stage 3: 

1-to-1 Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) iPad for all students. Since these will be used in school and at home,  they will need to be supplied by parents as part of the school requirements in Years 7, 8 and 9.

We recommend the 16GB iPad mini (it's also the cheapest).

Key Stage 4 and IB: 

As is the case now, students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13, will be able to bring any device to school that best helps their learning.

Since each student is individual, we will make sure that we support all devices, tablets or laptops.

 

Parent Workshops:

We will offer a series of regular workshops for parents on a variety of topics. Parents have already requested topics such as e-safety at home, how can I help my child, how can I know what my child is doing on-line etc. These will be planned in the coming weeks.
