Join us for BCB’s Primary and Secondary Open Morning event on 12th December 2024, from 8:00 to 10:00 AM, at our CF Campus.
In our Secondary blog, the importance of reading has been highlighted. And I could not agree more. Reading is definitely the extension of school in our lives. It enables us to contemplate how people can express themselves, in diverse manners. It is astonishing how plastic language can be!
For this reason, students in KS3 and 4, during Portuguese lessons, were invited to engage themselves in activities in which this malleability will be explored. As readers, this project will offer them a chance to visit different narratives: police fiction, romance (romantic or not), adventures, thriller, short stories...whilst some stories can make us picture how it was to be a woman or a child in a determined context in the past, others might show us a glimpse of how humanity will be in the future. Pedagogists affirm that reading strengthens and enriches the linguistic code because it constantly presents to the reader different ways to convey meaning.
As writers, students will elaborate different text genres and types, studied in each year group, using those narratives as a starting point. This will require them to have adequate language aspects such as vocabulary, tone, purpose, audience and register, perceiving that context is what makes us adjust communication.
Finally, I would like to quote a teacher I heard in a webinar: “Maybe this is not only people who read the books; maybe they are reading us”. Enjoy your reading!
