British Academic Excellence
At The British School Warsaw, we proudly offer the best of the English National Curriculum for Mathematics and English. At The British School Warsaw we have worked hard to provide a high-quality education rooted in British academic excellence. We use the English National Curriculum for its commitment to rigorous standards, well-structured learning progression, as well as a focus on developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. We believe that education should spark curiosity and empower students to thrive in an ever-changing world. As an inclusive school, differentiation is embedded in our teaching, ensuring all students are appropriately challenged and supported.
Our Curricula
At TBS, we careful plan our curricula to get the best out of our young learners. We ensure consistency and clear progression across year groups, giving children the best chance to develop both socially and academically.
In English, we ensure high-quality teaching by using great books that inspire and excite young minds, fostering a love for reading and storytelling. We ensure that there are plenty of meaningful opportunities for children to develop their writing skills in a way that connects with the books that they read and love in class. In Mathematics, we follow White Rose Maths, ensuring students develop secure number fluency, strong problem-solving skills, and confidence in tackling mathematical challenges.
In addition to English and Maths, our school is the only accredited International Primary Curriculum (IPC) school in Poland. This ensures we teach the IPC at the highest level. The IPC provides a thematic, enquiry-based approach to learning that engages students and connects their learning to real-world topics. Our students explore fascinating units such as Year 3’s ‘Chocolate’ or Year 5’s ‘Mission to Mars’ where they can explore and learn Geography, History, Science, Art and Technology within topics that excite and engage them. Every unit starts with an Entry Point, a hook to engage students into their learning. Learners then research and record their learning, making choices on how they can best demonstrate their knowledge, skills and understanding. To complete this cycle our students reflect not just on what they have learnt but also how they have learnt, so that they develop as reflective practitioners who are capable of making sensible choices when learning. Every unit ends with an Exit Point, a celebration of learning that showcases their achievements. Parents, family members and peers attend to see the result of their learning and to celebrate the effort and achievement of the pupils.
When asked to describe how we deliver the IPC, I often explain that our approach is to find the balance between rigorous academic learning and the opportunity to create memorable experiences, using trips, visitors and workshops to enhance how children gather knowledge and learn in meaningful ways.
At TBS Warsaw, we also use 8 Personal Learning Goals underpin everything we do. Using these goals as the basis of how we speak to children and how children speak to each other, allows us to model respectful, positive language. These goals help children develop key skills for the future, fostering independent and respectful thinkers who are prepared to navigate an increasingly complex world.
Reading can unlock the world of learning for our children. Teaching phonics using Read Write Inc., an English Department for Education (DfE) approved scheme, allows our children to make rapid progress in early reading. Delivered in small groups, this programme ensures that children build confidence in literacy from an early age, supported by teachers and teaching assistants trained to
We are proud of our broad curriculum that allows all children to find their interests and develop their passions. In Primary, specialist teachers use our collaboration with Juilliard to develop a love of Music and Dance, whilst our PE, Polish and Modern Foreign Language specialists allow children to broaden their learning whilst ensuring they receive high-quality instruction. We also run an extensive program of over 70 clubs a week, where students can develop their talents and discover new interests outside of their classes.
Why Parents Choose The British School Warsaw
One of the greatest advantages of an education at The British School Warsaw is the truly international and diverse student body. Children grow up in an environment where it is natural to have friends from all over the world, giving them a deep understanding and appreciation of different cultures and perspectives. This helps them understand a range viewpoints as they learn to collaborate and work together by being effective, empathetic and respectful communicators.
Families choose our school not only for its strong academic foundations but also for its commitment to holistic child development. Our excellent teachers truly care about the children, and they spend time getting to know them as individuals so they can support their development and as they learn and grow. To support this, wellbeing sessions, mapped through Nord Anglia’s Global Campus Wellbeing Toolkit, provide children with the emotional support and self-awareness skills they need to succeed. Our teachers’ priority is to ensure that children are safe, happy, and thriving. By fostering a supportive and stimulating environment, we empower students to become independent, confident learners who are prepared for the future.
