Meet the Teacher (#TEACHERFEATURE) is a St Andrews Bangkok community series that will give you a chance to get to know our outstanding educators – their thoughts, ideas and experiences.
Mr Joe, our new PE teacher is joining us in the upcoming 2023/2024 academic year from Dulwich College Shanghai, Puxi. He holds a Bachelor's Degree in Sports Science with Upper Second Class Honours.
Your education and other work experience(s)
I graduated from St. Mary’s University, Twickenham, London with a BSc (Hons) in Sport Science and since then have spent several years teaching in special needs and mainstream schools as a primary school teacher in the UK. I have also worked internationally as a primary PE specialist.
What areas of research/topics continue to capture your attention in your field and why?
I’m really interested in sports technology and how we can implement it with our young students. I also completed research into girls' participation in sport and how we can develop this further. Sport should be inclusive and accessible for all.
What hobbies do you have and what do you love about them? And what are your other interests?
Outside of the classroom, my main hobby would be football. I have been playing from a young age and I have competed to a good level. In my spare time, I also love to play golf. Besides sport, I also enjoy travelling, learning about new cultures and trying different foods.
What's your favourite thing to do, and why?
My favourite thing to do is all things sport, in particular football. I love to keep active and enjoy all the benefits of sport and exercise.
As part of the St Andrews Careers programme, Year 10 and Year 12 students had the valuable opportunity to hear from 20 industry professionals, including alumni, about various career pathways. The morning panel discussions provided insights into professional routes, required qualifications, and essential interpersonal skills for workplace success.
As Term 3 comes to an end, three senior students, Eleonore, Natalie, and Ananya, reflect on their experiences in the IB Diploma Programme at St Andrews International School Bangkok. Perhaps one of the most meaningful projects Ananya and Natalie took on during their senior studies was starting a foundation with a few other friends called Today4tomorrow – an initiative to provide opportunities to underprivileged girls in Thailand.
