In this week’s Primary School News, learn more about:
In Foundation Stage 2 (FS2) this week we have been reading the story ‘Supertato’. This inspired lots of superhero themed activities including making capes and developing our fine motor skills by cutting out masks. These came in very handy on Friday when they found lots of vegetables in distress, FS2 knew it was the work of the ‘Evil Pea’ and set out on a search to find him and put him back in the freezer where he belonged! Well done FS2, the school is in safe hands with you superheroes around!
The Year 2 children have been reading the popular story ‘Superworm’ by Julia Donaldson and were concerned that Superworm had gone missing. Last week we all posted missing person posters around the school to ask if anyone had seen our favourite superhero.
However, the missing person posters did not help and he was still missing. We know he was taken by the supervillain Wizard Lizard so we arranged a google meet with him to ask questions about where he has taken Superworm.
In the hot seating activity, the children asked lots of prepared questions about where Superworm was, who was the Servant Crow (his sidekick) and why did the Wizard Lizard turn out to be so evil.
After the interrogation, the children used the clues to find Superworm somewhere in the school. The clues led us to the secret garden and we found lots of real superworms to rescue.
We took them carefully back to the classroom and made them a wormery to live in knowing that they will be safe from the evil clutches of Wizard Lizard and his servant crow!
The children thoroughly enjoyed the activity and along the way learnt how to write adjectives, questions and how real worms are super for the environment which need to be looked after.
Ms Meg - Year 2 Leader
Congratulations to Tian in Year 5 who has received 'special recognition' in the worldwide sustainability video competition we ran last term, in partnership with the UK's Trust for Sustainable Living.
The competition was a chance for Primary students to make their voices heard by sending a video message to world leaders about their hopes for last year's COP26 climate conference. The theme was the need for "climate action and a green revolution.
Please take the time to view Tian’s wonderful video.
To learn more about the teaching and learning behind the COP26 event in Glasgow have a read of Mr Ewen’s TES Article here.
This month the students in STARs have shown their generosity by donating a number of toys and items to a local neighbourhood where 25 families lost their homes in a fire. The children and staff in the STARs department worked together to offer a range of new learning resources and activities to a local school and families to offer support. We aim to teach the children skills in sharing and giving. The pictures received gave the students the opportunity to appreciate where these items went and are greatly appreciated.
We hope the children of these families can enjoy their new toys and bring a smile to their faces at a hard time.
As Mr Paul mentioned above, please can all parents complete the NAE Parents Satisfaction Survey before Friday, 4th February. It will take no more than 10 minutes and is in a range of languages as well as English. The more families who complete it, the better the feedback and the more we can further improve the school to meet your family's requirements better.
