Last week we saw birthday biscuits, entrepreneurial skills, and scientific investigation around Primary School. Find out more below…
The children in Aqua class have been hard at work making and selling personalised keyrings and bracelets this month. The children have thoroughly enjoyed bonding with their peers as they sell them in their mainstream classes. While this is an excellent opportunity for inclusion with their peers, the students have been using their mathematical skills to ensure they cover the cost of the supplies and sell enough products around the school. The children have taken full creative responsibility and control of all business areas with some support from their teachers. We love to see our community showing their support by buying and engaging in the sales of these products. The children's confidence truly grows with each sale and interaction with their peers and teachers. Well done, everyone!
Last week saw the celebration of the Year class Pets. The cuddly toy characters, so loved by the Year 1 students, got to have their special day, and what would a birthday be without a sweet treat? So the Year 1 students made their very own birthday biscuits using a tried and tested recipe. They were very careful to wash their hands first before measuring out the ingredients, mixing and baking the yummy biscuits for the pets. The candle was lit, the song sung, and the teats enjoyed! The students also made party hats for the occasion. The students learnt measuring, teamwork, following instructions, empathy for others and calendar dates as part of this exercise. Oh, and they got a yummy biscuit and a hat to enjoy at the end!
Over the last couple of weeks, Year 5 have been designing their own investigation to find out if their heart rate increases with exercise. They had to come up with a question, a hypothesis and then record their results. The Year 5s used pulse monitors to measure their heart rates first at resting (hence the lying down) and then after exercise. The next stage is to look at the results and think about what could be improved in the investigation or what could make it a more scientific process.
Thank you for all your support throughout this first term. It has been very challenging, but it has been great to have the children learning back in school during the second half of the term.
We continue to seek advice from the authorities on the best protocols to have in place to keep the school community as safe as possible.
Our twice-weekly ATK tests have been a very useful measure, ensuring that we are aware of any cases in our community as early as possible.
From the beginning of Term 2. Students will continue to provide results of ATK tests twice a week. Although school has provided test kits for all students up to this point, parents will be asked to provide their own test kits going forward. To minimise costs we have negotiated a reduced price based on a combined order. These will be available as sets of 10 tests, enough to last through to the half term break in February.
The cost of the sets are:
HIP Biotech Nasal Swab Antigen Test Kit (Set of 10) 550 Baht
HIP Biotech Saliva Sample Antigen Test Kit (Set of 10) 650 Baht
Pre order will be available from now until December 10th. With the ATK’s being delivered to students on the first day of term, January 10, 2022.
