Read below for the news about last week's sport and also the weekend’s sport where our NAE Games team competed in Vietnam. There were also friendly football games for the U9 and U11 boys. It’s a great time to reflect on what has been an impressive Term 1 in Sport.
Over the weekend our NAE Games team travelled to Vietnam to compete in the NAE Games (4 day trip, competing in basketball and Tee Ball) against 9 other Nord Anglia Schools.
Our children were awesome as usual and a credit to STA, showing high levels of skill, great teamwork and togetherness, plus a tremendous amount of resilience in a highly competitive 2 days of sport.
The girls were Champions in the basketball and 3rd place in the Teeball. The boys were runners up in both basketball and Tee Ball in 2 close finals.
We had a great deal of support from our St Andrews International School Bangkok parents and the STA PE Department thank them for being part of yet another brilliant experience for their children.
Last week we took a team of 7 players to the Faldo Hua Hin golf tournament at Banyan golf course. The team was comprised of Anisa, Jump and Mond from High School and Fahsai, Nana, Pun Pun and Palm from Primary School.
Banyan is a championship course with extremely tricky greens and tight fairways. This was compounded by very windy and cold conditions. The entire team played very well considering the challenges and after three days of great golf, Fahsai came second overall in the net Stapleford category, only just missing out on the 3rd place gross prize.
All of the pupils played some fantastic shots; Jump with some great drives, Mond just missing out a chip in for birdie and Anisa with a fantastic putt on the 18th. Palm and Nana showed some great determination and Pun Pun had a run of pars on the back nine. Fahsai also had her first eagle in a competition.
As always, we were lucky enough to have great support from our STA parents and it was brilliant to see the entire team supporting each other throughout the competition. The High School students were very supportive of the Primary School golfers and Nana was representing the school for the first time at golf.
Well done to everyone that played, Mr Jarrod and I were really impressed at the effort that you all put in and as always, you did STA proud!
Mr Matt
Our U9 and U11 Boys were in action last week. These friendly games gave over 40 children the chance to represent STA, with many boys playing for STA for the first time. It was a great experience for all. Our STA teams have so much depth and quality. The U9 boys A team remain unbeaten in Term 1. Can they continue this going into Term 2?
Next up is the HIS International tournament in January where there will be 70 children from Primary School participating.
What an incredible Term 1 in Sport! This year we have had more children represent STA than previous years, plus we have changed and adapted our Sports and ECA Programme to cater for all the children who want to play sport each week.
There have been so many really pleasing results with all our teams. Our dancers for the second year running won the TISAC Dance Competition. Our gymnasts won our first ever Gymnastics team trophy at FOBISIA. Our young tennis players are now competing with the best tennis schools in Bangkok. Our boys U9 & U11 football teams were crowned Champions at the HIS Cup. The U11 girls and boys basketball teams won both their end of season TISAC tournaments, plus our girls U11 teams won their TISAC Basketball League.
Away from sport in Bangkok, our teams enjoyed success at both the biggest schools football tournament in Asia at the BISP Soccer 7s and also at the NAE Games in Vietnam. All 4 Primary football teams reached the final of their tournaments at the BISP Soccer 7s with our U9 girls being crowned Champions and winning our first ever Champions trophy at the BISP Soccer 7s. Our boys' teams both lost in their finals on penalties so finished runners up. Also, at the NAE Games the girls were Champions in the basketball and 3rd place in the Teeball. The boys were runners up in both basketball and Tee-Ball in 2 close finals
The above achievements are just fantastic and would not be possible without the dedication and drive of our coaches who train the children to be the best they can be each week.
The PE and swim team are excited about Term 2 with so many more opportunities for our children. We have more football, dance, gymnastics, swimming and tennis.
To stay on top of all the action, I strongly encourage you to regularly review the Primary School Sports Fixtures Google Calendar, which can also be found along with all school calendars at calendar.standrews.ac.th.
More events will get added as the term goes on, please check our school calendar for more dates.
What a great learning experience for our young Gymnastics at the FOBISIA Gymnastics last weekend. The level of competition was the best yet and the children should be really proud of the way they competed and also the level of skill, focus required to put all their hard work into practice was exceptional. Our children achieved some incredible results and with our Level 4 girls winning our first ever Team FOBISIA Gymnastics Trophy, coming 3rd place on points total. This year we had over 30 children representing STA at the FOBISIA Gymnastics, which shows the growth of our programme. A big thank you to Miss Bogi and her team who strive to continue to improve and develop our gymnastics programme to the next level. Bring on Term 2.
Well done to all the players who participated in the local Mini Tennis tournament last week. Fantastic performance from Nine Nine who was the champion in the Red ball category and Ten Ten who won second place in the orange ball category. It was a great experience for our players to compete with opponents from outside international schools. Most importantly, they all enjoyed the tournament and have made some new friends.

It is great that more parents are supporting our teams across different sports. The Primary PE and Swim Department teachers and coaches really appreciate parent involvement. The Code of Conduct below is a reminder of the expectations we have of our STA parents at sporting events. If you are unhappy with any situation at a sporting event, please come to see me or email me to book a meeting. Please note that it is unacceptable to confront a teacher/coach during a tournament or a game. The PE and Swim department look forward to seeing you at the next tournament/fixture.
We appreciate that you are often hearing different acronyms - TISAC, BISAC, FOBISIA - that we are involved in but may not know much about them. We hope that the following overview will, therefore, be useful.
We are currently members of four conferences or organisations:
We have been members for many years. This has 16 schools involved which vary in size from small to very large. Currently, we mostly enter Blaze teams in TISAC. There are leagues and tournaments in several sports from U9-U19 and next year, TISAC will also start its own multi-sport Games for Primary children.
This is our first year in BISAC. The 12-school membership includes the largest international schools in Bangkok in leagues and tournaments across many sports, from U9-U19, split into four seasons through the year. BISAC schools also run invitational tournaments.
This has three major multi-sport Games per year (Primary, U13 and U15) that take place in Phuket against other schools across Asia. There are also single-sport events in Tennis, Golf, Swimming and more, which take place across Asia and provide some amazing travel opportunities.
We are part of the South East Asia division and meet for a U11 multi-sport Games once a year. Our schools take it in turn to host the NAE Games.
In addition, we are part of the wider circuit regionally which means we are invited to a whole range of other events across Thailand.
Currently we are able to offer STA students opportunities through these conferences in Football, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Badminton, Golf, Teeball, Track and Field, Triathlon, Cross Country.
If you have any questions about these conferences, please don’t hesitate to contact Mr. Damon (damon.se@standrews.ac.th).
