The Marlins swim team did an amazing job at Phuket over the weekend … and a reminder of the training schedule for this term along with some match dates for your diaries. KS3 will be working towards their fitness challenge at the end of this term.
Over the past weekend at Phuket, all the Marlins did an amazing job in the pool and also showed great sportsmanship and team spirit. Many personal best were beaten and all swimmers learned many valuable lessons. This year, we finished 2nd place in the overall team scores and this is a huge achievement for us. Thank you parents for the massive support from, you are the main reason of behind this accomplishment so congratulations to all of you. Keep up the good work Marlins!
We hosted SISB on Wednesday last week for some games for our players in development for next season. A team of mostly U12 girls took on SISB’s U13 team, and our U14 boys played their U15s.
Our girls showed their usual skill with the ball though we’ll need to work on how to get in behind a pressing defense. Our rebounding improved as the game progressed and we were able to transition into offense much quicker once we were controlling our own backboard. Against a taller, older team, a five point victory was well-deserved.
Our boys were quality on court, with some outstanding performances from our experienced ballers and some encouraging ones from players new to the set up. With such a strong group of ballers across U13-15, it was no surprise to see them run out easy winners.
We’re working on plans to develop our weekend programme, which, we hope, will include opening up to non-STA ballers in new sessions added to the schedule. We often have requests for this, and we think it will provide new opportunities for our own ballers to play against some new opponents. Watch this space.
We’ll continue to challenge our KS3 students to think about their fitness and developing a healthy, active lifestyle. At the end of this term, they will have a last chance to try to complete the challenge, which is to run 1,500m non-stop. They may tackle this challenge at their own speed - there is no time limit, and no medals for winning!
Please ask your child if they successfully completed their challenge. Your engagement in the process will help all of our students to achieve a healthy, active lifestyle. This has been shown in many scientific studies to improve academic performance due to the effects of exercise on the chemistry of our bodies, as well as the opportunities to improve motivation, self-discipline, interaction, teamwork and self-esteem through physical activity.
