Read on for reports on the Marlin Mayhem, our first ever gymnastics competition, TISAC football festivals and tournaments, tee ball fixtures, Reception football and also the 1000 meter running challenge. Plus we have many dance performances to look forward to this week.

What a great week of sport with so  many opportunities and so much enjoyment for our Primary children.

Click on the image below to see a short video which captures some of the images and videos from this action-packed week of sport:

Swimming

What an amazing 2 days of swimming at the High School for the Marlin Mayhem swim meet at the weekend which brought together swimmers from 14 other international schools from in and around Bangkok. The level of competition was extremely high with some exciting races and fingertip touch finishes. There were plenty medals won and personal bests beaten with some impressive swims from our Primary children.  Our swimmers showed great team spirit throughout the weekend and all their hard work was reflected in our overall points victory. Well done to all the swimmers  and congratulations to  the swim team for their amazing organisation of this massive event.

Football

It has been a very busy week for our football teams.  The U11 Girls concluded their TISAC league.  They remained unbeaten and were crowned champions. Congratulations girls - all your hard work has paid off.

On Saturday our U11 teams took part in the TISAC tournaments.  The girls remain undefeated in 2018 with a convincing tournament display. The boys lost just one game after a slow start, but went on to win the rest of their games. Well done everyone.

During the week, our U9 teams played in their TISAC tournaments.  Our boys team, which included three Year 2 children, remained unbeaten losing narrowly on penalties in the final. The girls lost just one game in their tournament and were unlucky not to win the tournament.

Other upcoming events include:

  • Harrow Festival - 12 May - U9/U11 teams

Gymnastics

The Moose Games on Saturday and Sunday was the first competition our gymnasts have ever participated in.  The squad has been working hard on their routines and performed brilliantly over the weekend.  Some of our girls achieved gold medals across all 4 different gymnastics disciplines.  This is just the start of our gymnastics journey and we now look forward to adding more events to our school calendar, as well as introducing more opportunities for our younger gymnasts next year.  Also, a massive thank you should go to Miss Bogi for her part in developing gymnastics at STA.

More Events

  • BISAC Gymnastics Championship 2018: 28 -29 April @ Patana School

Reception Football

On Tuesday, Bangkok Soccer Schools came to school to coach the Reception children.  All the children had a great time and it was fantastic to see so  many children being active and enjoying sport.  If you would like your child to play more football then please contact Mr Damon to explore all the opportunities available at school.

1000 Meters Running Challenge

We have had some outstanding results this week with our children running. It is very encouraging to see the determination, resilience and fitness levels of our children in the  Primary School. It is during these lessons that we talk more to the children about healthy active lifestyles.  The 1000 meter challenge will conclude this week.

Why dance is just as important as math in school. Dance — and physical activity — should have the same status in schools as math, science and language. Psst: it may even help raise test scores, says Sir Ken Robinson.

FOBISIA Training

We will soon have the full schedule for the Primary Games at which point I will contact all FOBISIA team parents to arrange a meeting to share the programme of events and also answer any questions you have.

Now is a time to start thinking about the kit your child will need for the FOBISIA Games. All items are available in the Uniform Shop. If your child does not have the Flames Teeball logo on their PE top please bring it to K. Seung to have the logo added.

  • STA Cap

  • STA tour bag or rucksack

  • Athletics vest

  • PE top with Flames Teeball logo

  • PE shorts x 2 or 3 (athletics, football and teeball)

  • Yellow football top

  • STA football socks

  • Tour top

  • Marlins top

  • School swim suit

  • STA Swim cap

  • Goggles

Term 3 Training

  • Wednesday - All FOBISIA SQUAD (Years 6,5,4) will have athletics training. This will give all children a chance to work on their athletic events.

  • Friday - All FOBISIA SQUAD (Years 6,5,4) will have teeball training at the Arsenal training facility Pridi Soi 21. We normally only do this a couple of times before FOBISIA, but by using the bigger teeball pitches at Arsenal for longer, we will be better prepared.

If you have any questions please email Mr Damon.

Squad Timetable for the Last Week of Term

The following squads will train on the last week of term.

  • Monday - boys’ football/girls’ basketball
  • Tuesday - girls’ football
  • Wednesday - Teeball fixture for Year 6 children only

School Online Communication System - SOCS

We hope you may have had a chance to look at our news Sports portal, where we are already posting fixtures, team sheets, photos etc for our busy sports schedule. You may access it using this link.

The site is open for players and parents alike to check rosters, schedules etc. It is a great tool for communication between coaches, players and parents, though unlike the current system, the emphasis will be on parents and players to be proactive in checking the site, rather than awaiting emails from coaches!

We will still need to communicate via email for transport requirements for the time being.

Mr. Ollie presented the new system to the High School students in early March so that they may get to know it. He’ll recommend to them that they show it to you too, in case you’re interested.

We recommend that you visit the site and familiarise yourself with it. If you have any feedback, please let either Mr Damon or Mr Ollie know.

By August, we hope everyone will be ready to use SOCS to follow the action!
