Marlin Mayhem
Our annual swim meet, the Marlin Mayhem took place over the weekend and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who was involved in organising this event which brought together 15 international schools for two days of high level swimming competition. There was a fantastic atmosphere at our High School with some amazing swimming from all the competitors. A special thank you to Khun X and his team of coaches for all the hard work both preparing our swimmers for this competition as well as organising the event itself. Our thanks go also to our Marketing and Estates team for the incredible amount of work that went on behind the scenes to ensure that the event ran smoothly.

Khun Boyd Kosiyapong
On Tuesday 27th March, High School students learning Thai in KS 4 and 5 had an opportunity to welcome Khun Boyd Kosiyapong at the Jo Adamson Theatre during their ECA time from 2:30 - 4:00pm. Khun Boyd is a very well known, successful songwriter, music producer who uses his powerful song lyrics to motivate, inspire or even change people's lives. His beautiful songs have become inspiration for a lot of people. Many students, parents and staff came to listen to his talk. A group of students performed his song as an opening to the talk. In addition, a few students from each Key Stage shared their reflections on the songs produced by Khun Boyd Kosiyapong.
Natalie S.Y13C has shared her reflections on Khun Boyd’s visit to the School:
I was privileged to meet Khun Boyd Kosiyapong, a Thai singer-songwriter and an owner of a music label. He was friendly and easy-going while telling us stories of his past and sharing the analogies that keep him striving. His moral principle is to GIVE - similar to pushing water out of yourself when swimming because in the end, more water will circle towards you meaning that you will receive more than you give. Yet, you must not concentrate on receiving but rather on giving to others. In an activity, he demonstrated the importance of concentrating on our life goals rather than on disappointments and obstacles , using the analogy of an umbrella: by concentrating at the tip or the disappointment it causes instability BUT by concentrating on our goals or the handle of the umbrella our life will become more stable.
Khun Jidanun Lueangpiensamut
On Thursday 29th March, High School students learning Thai in KS 3 and 4 had an opportunity to welcome Khun Jidanun Lueangpiensamut at the school auditorium in the afternoon. Khun Jidanun Lueangpiensamut is the youngest Thai writer to ever win the S.E.A. Write Award, the most prestigious writing award in Southeast Asia. It was Singto Nokkrok, a book of short stories, that won her the top prize at last year’s S.E.A. Write Award.
Reflections by Anya Year 10 S:
Khun Jidanun Luengpeansamut is a highly recognised author who came in to talk about the techniques she used to write her award-winning book “Sing Toh Nok Khok” which translates briefly to “The lion out of its den”. She talked about her childhood which led her to love of the art of writing. At age 25 she had accomplished one of the goals that every writer fights for by winning the S.E.A Write Award. She admitted that she never thought that she would win the SEA Write Award because her book was going up against other authors’ that had more experience than her. She explained that the one of the most important aspects of writing a book is having a strong plot which you can always go back to when your mind is blank. Other than that, she gave us techniques for writing short stories such as having a simple plot so we can match the word count required. All these different techniques will help me write better short stories. Khun Jidanun also gave us techniques on how to deal with story writing tasks in exams. Despite the fact that she envisions this as a very hard task because exams run under a specific time and story writing usually takes her many hours, she managed to give us tips on how to write efficiently and proficiently. Her success and love of writing has inspired me to write. Therefore, getting to meet her was an amazing experience.
End of Term 2 Songkran Festival
School closes on Thursday 5 April at 2.30 pm and I would like to thank everybody for their support and hard work this term. On Thursday we have our Songkran Festival which is always a great event and a wonderful way to end a very busy term.
It is also time to say best of luck to our Year 11 students and our Year 13 Graduating Class of 2018 who go on study leave for the final stretch to their external examinations which will start once we all return to school for the Term 3. I know they will all be working hard in this final build up for their exams and I know you will join me in wishing them the best of luck in their final period of revision.
I hope everyone in our school community has a relaxing holiday. I look forward to the start of what will no doubt be a very busy third term on Monday 23 April.
