The U13 team returned from FOBISIA in Phuket having enjoyed great success at the event. Catch up on the performances and highlights of our Flames and Marlins sports teams and stay abreast of upcoming sporting events and competitions.
We enjoyed an unbelievable 3 days of competition amongst the highest level of British Schools in Asia at the FOBISIA Games.
We performed well in the pool, taking 3rd overall. On track, we also finished 3rd, with standout performances from Marco (High Jump and 4 golds), Jiya (200m) and Suhavi (Long Jump), setting new school records, along with the 4x100m Girls relay team.
The boys put on a masterclass of Basketball and Football, winning both championships in unbeaten style. It was a pleasure to see their work ethic and technical ability, which earned the admiration of the other coaches. The girls also performed well in Football, claiming 2nd with some beautiful, passing play that shone out amongst the competition. In Basketball, the girls faced some extremely tough opposition but battled well and came away with a very respectable 3rd place.
We look forward to returning to Thanyapura in November for the U15 FOBISIA Games. We’ll ask for interest in Term 3, before making our final selection and initial track trial before the summer.
We have our second parents v students match tomorrow, Tuesday 20 March at 4.00 p.m. Please feel free to come along and support. As well as being great experience for our girls, it is also good fun for players and spectators alike! And the girls are looking for revenge after their loss in Game 1…
The STA golf team played in the FOBISIA Golf Championship at Black Mountain golf resort from 12 to 15 March. Golfers came from schools across SE Asia to compete on one of Thailand's best golf courses. There was some remarkable golf played over the 3 days in tough conditions and against a very high standard of young golfers.
STA players performed well with Leely (Yr 5) and Hui Yi (Yr 9) both picking up prizes:
Well done to all the team for playing with spirit, endeavor and for making new friends.
Well done to all of our U15 Flames players who played some excellent tennis in the heat yesterday at the BISAC Singles Tournament. They achieved some great results; a beaten semi-finalist and a runners up spot. Well done to all the players.
We will continue to offer activities for those who wish to participate in organised sport during the holidays, starting with our Multi Sport Camp at Songkran (9-12 April). We’ll also offer another bball camp, although it is likely to run in the afternoon at Songkran.
Details will be sent home this week. As usual, we’ll also use Facebook and Instagram to keep you updated.
We hope you may have had a chance to look at our news Sports portal, where we are already posting fixtures, team sheets, photos etc for our busy sports schedule. You may access it using this link.
The site is open for players and parents alike to check rosters, schedules etc. It is a great tool for communication between coaches, players and parents, though unlike the current system, the emphasis will be on parents and players to be proactive in checking the site, rather than awaiting emails from coaches!
We will still need to communicate via email for transport requirements for the time being.
We recommend that you visit the site and familiarise yourself with it. If you have any feedback, please let either Mr Damon or Mr Ollie know.
By August, we hope everyone will be ready to use SOCS to follow the action!

What an exciting week in our curriculum PE lessons with the very first Reception Triathlon and also the KS2 Aquathons. It’s great to see so many children enjoying exercise and working hard to achieve something.
The week beginning 26 March all children from Years 3-6 will do their second running endurance test around the school. The running endurance test is not a race and is not about running fast. It allows children to work at their own pace and run for as long as they can without stopping. Once they stop then the test stops and the distance they have run is their score. We will give the children the scores from Term 1 so they know what they are trying to beat. Once again during this time we will be talking to children about living a healthy lifestyle, the types of the exercise they can do away from school and the importance of exercise.
We had our second round of the TISAC Festival for the U11 boys this week. The team included for boys from Year 4 and they all did extremely well. Well done to all the children involved.
Other upcoming events include:
U11 Girls TISAC football festival - TISAC @ Soccer Pro - 27 March @ Soccer pro
U9 Boys TISAC Football Tournament - Thursday 29 March @ 107
U9 Girls TISAC Football Tournament - Thursday 29 March @ Polo Ground
U11 Boys TISAC Football Tournament - Saturday 31 March @ Regents
U11 Girls TISAC Football Tournament - Saturday 31 March @ Bromsgrove
Harrow Festival - 12 May - U9/U11 teams
The Moose Games is STA’s first ever gymnastics competition and will be held from 31 March to 1 April. The squad has been working hard on their routines and now look to perform against the best schools in Bangkok. The new Flames Gymnastics kit is nearly here and it will be great to see our gymnasts perform at this level. This year is our first year with a gymnastics squad so it is fantastic that we can already compete. This is just the start of our gymnastics journey and we now look forward to adding more events to our school calendar. The competition falls on the same weekend as the Marlin Mayhem so these children will have to choose which competition they want to take part in.
Our Level 2 girls will compete on Saturday 31 March in the last session from 4.30 p.m. If the schedule runs on time, they will finish around 7.30 p.m.
Our Level 3 girls will compete on Sunday 1 April from 9.00 a.m. and are scheduled to finish around 11.30 a.m.

Last week we saw our Reception children complete the first ever Reception Triathlon. The children swam 30m, biked 500m and then ran 60m. It was fantastic to see so many children enjoying exercise. A big thank you to the Reception teachers and K. Seung for organizing the event. We have future plans to set a course for Year 1 and 2.
We will soon have the full schedule for the Primary Games at which point II will contact all FOBISIA team parents to arrange a meeting to share the programme of events and also answer any questions you have.
Now is a time to start thinking about the kit your child will need for the FOBISIA Games. All items are available in the Uniform Shop. If your child does not have the Flames Teeball logo on their PE top please bring it to K.Seung to have the logo added.
Wednesday - All FOBISIA SQUAD (Years 6,5,4) will have athletics training. This will give all children a chance to work on their athletic events.
Friday - All FOBISIA SQUAD (Years 6,5,4) will have teeball training at the Arsenal training facility Pridi Soi 21. We normally only do this a couple of times before FOBISIA, but by using the bigger teeball pitches at Arsenal for longer, we will be better prepared.
If you have any questions please email Mr Damon.

Mr. Ollie will be presenting it to the High School students on Wednesday 7th March in the Sports Hall at 12.45pm so that they may get to know it. He’ll recommend to them that they show it to you too, in case you’re interested.

Our Saturday Programme continues to grow with so many great sporting options for our children. It is great that STA students can come to the Primary School and keep active over the weekend and have fun with their friends playing sport. On Saturday mornings we have Gymnastics, girls Football, Yoga, Club Basketball and our Flames Basketball Academy. Currently, we are looking at opportunities to extend the football so that all of our children have the chance to play football at the weekend. We are also trying to encourage more children to join up for endurance events that take place specifically for children at the weekends. If you would like to know more about our Saturday program please email Mr Damon (damon.se@standrews.ac.th) or to enquire about the endurance events, please email Khun Seung (seung.sa@standrews.ac.th).
