School may have been out, but our STA ballers continued to improve during the half term holiday … and try catch up with all of our other athletes in March.
We enjoyed our busiest-ever bball camp over the half term holiday, which was full every day. It was great to see so many students turn up to be active over the break and to continue to learn.
We’ll continue to offer activities for those who wish to participate in organised sport during the holidays, starting with our Multi Sport Camp at Songkran (9-12 April). We’ll also offer another bball camp, although it is likely to run in the afternoon at Songkran.
More details will be posted here soon and sent home via email. As usual, we’ll also use Facebook and Instagram to keep you updated as events come along.
This week is a big one with the first two of our four Sports Days.
27 February: Year 7
28 February: Year 8
8 March: Year 10
9 March: Year 9
The rosters are posted on the PE notice.
We’re looking forward to four great days off site at Ramkhamhaeng University stadium, with each Year having their own event for the first time.
All 570 students in Years 7-10 will be competing or marshalling in our biggest Sports Days ever. We have a full programme of track and field, with over 350 medals to be one, several Pentathlon trophies ‘up for grabs’, and one House trophy for the overall winners.
Students will need to wear their House t-shirt, PE pants and trainers. They should bring sun-cream too.
Please note that there will be training again this Saturday.
We hope you may have had a chance to look at our news Sports portal, where we are already posting fixtures, team sheets, photos etc for our busy sports schedule. You may access it using this link.
The site is open for players and parents alike to check rosters, schedules etc. It is a great tool for communication between coaches, players and parents, though unlike the current system, the emphasis will be on parents and players to be proactive in checking the site, rather than awaiting emails from coaches!
We will still need to communicate via email for transport requirements for the time being.
Mr Ollie will be presenting it to the High School students on Wednesday 7th March in the Sports Hall at 12.45pm so that they may get to know it. He’ll recommend to them that they show it to you too, in case you’re interested.
We recommend that you visit the site and familiarise yourself with it. If you have any feedback, please let either Mr Damon or Mr Ollie know.
By August, we hope everyone will be ready to use SOCS to follow the action!
Please note that there are ongoing fixtures in between in volleyball, basketball, football, athletics.
We hope you have had a well earned break and now we move into an extremely busy period of sport. Our sports program and the options it gives our young children has grown massively and it’s during these times when children will have to make choices about which events/tournaments they would like to be part of. Some tough decisions for them to make!
Before the end of Term 2 KS2 (Years 3-6) will do their second running endurance test around the school. The test is not a race and not about running fast. It allows children to work at their own pace and run for as long as they can without stopping. Once they stop then the test stops and the distance they have ran is their score. We will give the children the scores from term 1 so they know what they are trying to beat. Once again during this time we will be talking to children about living a healthy lifestyle and the importance of exercise.
Another event during curriculum time is our Aquathon. Children will run and then swim in their PE groups. More and more children are enjoying these endurance based events and it is great for STA to promote the importance of the effect exercise has on their bodies for their future.
Also, in March we have our first ever Gymnastics Competition. Our Gymnastics squad have been working hard and should be proud of their progress this year.
We come to the second round of the TISAC festivals and and then the TISAC Tournaments. Plus we have the U9 boys and girls Tournament on the 10th March @ Patana.

The Moose Games is STA’s first ever gymnastics competition. The squad have been working hard on their routines and now look to perform against the best schools in Bangkok. The new Flames Gymnastics kit is nearly here and it will be great to see them perform at this level. This year is our first year with a gymnastics squad so it is fantastic that we can go and compete. This is just the start of our gymnastics journey and we now look forward to adding more events to our school calendar. The competition falls on the same weekend of the Marlin Mayhem so these children will have to decide which one they will want to be a part of.
Gymnastics Moose Games - 31 March - 1 April
After the success of their first fixture last term, the year 4 boys and girls squad have been invited to go to Patana to play against their year 4 team. The selected children will leave school at 1.15pm and head to Patana for a 2.30pm tip off.
Year 4 Basketball - Girls and Boys @ Patana - Thursday 22 March
3 Swim meets in March will have the swim team very busy, with the last being our yearly hosted event the Marlin Mayhem. These three meets will have the strongest swimmers in Bangkok and it’s a great change to compare and compete against the best.
The Martins Cup 1 - 4 March
BISAC Swim Meet - 17/18 March @ NIST
Marlin Mayhem - 31 March - 1 April
In preparation for the FOBISIA Games we have agreed a fixture against Shrewsbury. Shrewsbury will be to the similar standard we will play at FOBISIA so this is a brilliant learning experience. All the FOBISIA children will leave early from school at 1.15pm and head to shrewsbury for the games.
U11/U10 teeball (FOBISIA Teams) @ Shrewsbury - Monday 5 March.
In the next couple of weeks we start our Primary Aquathon. The children will be asked to run and then swim the distance they feel they are capable of. These events are great to show and work on our children determination and resilience. By completing these type of events and not giving up will give children a real sense of achievement and a belief that they can achieve anything with hard work. There are two Aquathons:
Normal Aquathon
Aquathon X
After the half term break there will be a change to the FOBISIA training:
Wednesday: Year 6 Teeball
Friday: Year 4/5 Athletics
Training will start from the first week back after half-term.
In term 3 training will change again with the Games edging closer and closer.
Wednesday - All FOBISIA SQUAD (Years 6,5,4) on athletics. This will give all children a chance to work on their athletic events.
Friday - All FOBISIA SQUAD (Years 6,5,4) on Teeball at Arsenal training facility Pridi Soi 21. We normally only do this a couple of times before FOBISIA, but this time we will be better prepared with playing time on bigger Teeball pitches.
If you have any questions in the meantime please email Mr Damon.
The Year 1M dance was a great way to end the week. Miss Cherry has done a great job at the school since dance has become part of the PE curriculum. 1M put on a fantastic performance in front of the rest of Year 1 and also their parents.

Our Saturday Programme continues to grow with so many great sporting options for our children. It is great that STA students can come to the Primary School and keep active over the weekend and have fun with their friends playing sport. On Saturday mornings we have Gymnastics, girls Football, Yoga, Club Basketball and our Flames Basketball Academy. Currently, we are looking at opportunities to extend the football so that all of our children have the chance to play football at the weekend. We are also trying to encourage more children to join up for endurance events that take place specifically for children at the weekends. If you would like to know more about our Saturday program please email Mr Damon (damon.se@standrews.ac.th) or to enquire about the endurance events, please email Khun Seung (seung.sa@standrews.ac.th).
