The Primary School Book Fair is here while High School launches fun activities as part of Book Week.
Our Book Fair got off to a brilliant start this morning! It was wonderful to see so many parents and children browsing our used-book sale and Paragon Asia! Fantastic!
Although we are still receiving donated books, we have thus far received an overwhelming 1254 books!! This is a new record and I would like to thank everyone who has donated. All proceedings from the used-book sale will go to Rainbow House - a foundation for children with disabilities. In next week’s Newsletter I will announce the house points!
As if the library isn’t busy enough already this week, we are also asking the children to come to the library during lunch time from Monday until Thursday to make the all-important Christmas decorations for our Christmas Tree! On Friday 1 December we will ask the children to decorate the tree during break-time, whilst accompanied by Ms Marie and her choir! I’m so excited!
Did you feel scared on your first day of school? Have you ever felt nervous talking in class? Did your heart beat really fast? Read about Omar and Chloe, and what they did when they felt scared. With a mix of stories, questions for the reader, and advice, this book focuses on why children may feel a certain way and how they can deal with those feelings. With fun, engaging illustrations the book reassures young readers, providing them with a vocabulary to express and understand their feelings as they grow up and encounter different situations.
Dexter's next mission? Catch a cat burglar!
On a school field trip to the museum, Dexter puts his brand-new super-secret spy skills to the test. Someone has broken into the Egyptian exhibit to steal Pharaoh Hun-Ga-Re's greatest treasure...a sacred sandwich that can raise the dead! But who could be hungry enough to want a six-thousand-year-old snack? With an army of robot ninjas, a mustachioed mystery man, and a sneaky new classmate lurking around every corner, it's up to Dex to find the petrified hoagie first and save the world from a monstrous mummy's ancient curse...
From his seat in the tiny aeroplane, Fred watches as the mysteries of the Amazon jungle pass by below him. He has always dreamed of becoming an explorer, of making history and of reading his name amongst the lists of great discoveries. If only he could land and look about him.
As the plane crashes into the canopy, Fred is suddenly left without a choice. He and the three other children may be alive, but the jungle is a vast, untamed place. With no hope of rescue, the chance of getting home feels impossibly small.
Except, it seems, someone has been there before them …
Food chemistry, atom crashing, wave power, food chemistry, and robots! These are just a few of the topics covered in this fantastic new science encyclopedia, which presents a comprehensive overview of physical and life sciences from A to Z. Super smart and kid-friendly, it’s packed with full-color photographs, weird but true facts, amazing statistics, do-it-yourself experiments, plus profiles of scientists and National Geographic's explorers who rock the world of science. Keep up with the changes happening all around us with this stellar science reference book.

Today, High School Book Week starts and there are a lot of exciting events and activities going on not only in the library but also around the school during this week. As you already know Book Week will run from Monday, 27 November to Friday, 1 December 2017. This year the High School library will host several activities such as Biblio-Battle, Mini-Concerts, Get Caught Reading, Blind Date with a Book, and Golden Ticket. In addition, in front of the library you can find many new and interesting books at a special discount offered Kinokuniya and AsiaBooks. Please find detailed information on each activity in the library below. Should you have any questions/suggestions about High School Book Week, please feel free to contact the High School library at libraryhs@standrews.ac.th.
1. Biblio-Battle: In cooperation with Japanese Teacher, Mr. Tsuyoshi Midomaru, the High School library has prepared a special zone in the library to display students’ excellent book reviews from their class project. They have been working hard to read a book and create their book reviews that are put on display in the library.
2. Mini-concerts: There will be two mini-concerts in the library during this week. The program will be St Andrews Choir, Brass Quintet and String Ensemble, and all in St Andrews community are welcome to join the concerts during lunchtime on Nov. 28 (Tuesday) & Nov. 30 (Thursday). Please come enjoy the concerts.
3. Get Caught Reading: The contest for "Reading in Strange Places." Students are encouraged to take photos of themselves reading in strange places (or in an awkward pose) and send the photos to "libraryhs@standrews.ac.th" to enter the contest. The committee will choose three winners and award 1 house point to each of them. Please keep in mind that the contest ends at 12 PM on 30 Nov 2017.
4. Golden Tickets: Today the first clues for 3 Golden Tickets appear on the High School Notice. Do you know which items keep the Golden Tickets? There are 3 Golden Tickets in total hidden inside 3 library items. Once you identify the items from the clues, please search for them in the library and claim the prize. Hunters will be given 1 individual house point as well as Kinokuniya Voucher. Good luck!
5. Blind Date with a Book: The High School library has new books, but the titles of the books will be hidden. Students can guess the title of the books from keywords written on paper bags. Then they can choose and check out their preferred book. After reading, students will be asked to submit a short review of the book and get 1 house point. We will upload the book review to the library system. Come find interesting books on the “Blind Date with a Book” bookshelf in the library.
