Key Stage 2: A great St Andrews community

flu season
Key Stage 2: A great St Andrews community We’re letting our KS2 students know What Makes a Great St Andrews Community...Learn what you have to do to get your child vaccinated against the flu...Please join our Reading Workshop for parents on Friday, 20th October...Please come to the PTG International Day meeting and get involved by representing your home country.

What Makes A Great St Andrews Community

In our KS2 assembly a few weeks ago, Mr Steve introduced the students in KS2 to the What Makes A Great St Andrews Community document. This is based on the work done by a group of High School students last year, in which they initially set out to list down the characteristics of what they felt made a good St Andrews student. It was during this discussion that they recognised that there’s much more to the school than just the student body and so they decided to think about our community as a whole.

We have taken this document and have made the language more accessible for KS2 students. Each of the ideas within the document will be shown to the children in future assemblies and will become part of the PSHE curriculum. This will allow the children to really grasp these ideas and help them to recognise these characteristics in themselves and in others.

We will also be displaying these characteristics, along with images of our students showing them in action, around the campus over the coming term. This is a fantastic opportunity to reinforce what makes St Andrews such a great place to learn and work, helping old students and families identify what makes us so special and helping new students and families understand and embrace the St Andrews way.

Flu Vaccination

Samitivej Children’s hospital have now confirmed our booking for 17th November for the first doses of the influenza  vaccination, and the second doses during the first week at Term 2. Consent forms will be sent out  shortly. These need to be filled in and returned to school and we will also send you details of how payments will be arranged.

On the day of the vaccination, the medical team will be set up after 1pm for parents to collect their children for the vaccination and then take them straight home.

*Please note that School staff are not able to take the children for their vaccination.

There is still time to sign up for the vaccination, but we need to confirm final numbers a few weeks in advance of the visit to ensure that they bring enough doses.

A date for your diary: Friday 20th October KS2 Reading Workshop

On Friday 20th October, shortly after 8am in the Drama Studio, we are pleased to invite you to a parent reading  workshop.

At the workshop we will introduce the various aspects of reading that happen in KS2, including Guided Reading.  There will also be a chance to ask questions about our new digital reading scheme, Bug Club. In the workshop, you will be given information about reading in school and how to instill a love of reading at home. We will give you some materials to take away including a list of suitable question s to sufficiently challenge the children’s comprehension of the books they read.

PTG International Day Country Representatives Meeting

The PTG will be conducting an International Day Country Representatives Meeting on Thursday, 5th October at 8.30 am in the Exam Hall located on the 7th floor of the Blue Building at the High School. This meeting will be the first opportunity parents will have to coordinate and organise International Day (10th of November in Primary School and 17th of November in High School)

Just like last year, the PTG will be organizing the International Food Buffet, with the additional challenge of operating food stalls on both campuses. Last year, we had 25 countries represented and it would be great if we could our families from the 52 different nations around the world involved to top this number. You can read more about this meeting and International Day in the PTG section of the newsletter.
