No Idling Poster Competition

Just before half term we held a competition to design a poster to raise awareness of the issue of car engines idling. The posters will be put up around the school car park to make our community aware of this global issue. There will be English and Thai versions displayed. There were lots of interesting designs entered from students across the key stage. In the end it was the simplicity and clear message provided by the winning posters that won over the judges. Well done to everyone who took part- you have all been awarded house points.

The winner from KS1 who will see their work displayed and will get a personal copy of the poster to keep, is Clotilde from Y2S.  House Points will also go to all of the other children who submitted great designs.

Changing Seasons

The children have noticed that all around school at the moment we have signs of the changing seasons.  One of the most exciting things is the number of birds we are seeing around hunting for materials to make their nests and setting up home in places such as the trees in the Early Years garden and on the ledges of the library roof.  We even found a baby pigeon last week which Miss Jane Singh adopted after we gave up hope of the parents coming back to it.

It seems that it is not only birds who are busy finding homes at  St. Andrews at the moment as Miss Emma explains….

Strange Goings on in Reception Last Week

Well you may have all heard the news about the magical eggs that arrived in our class on Monday!

In our tuff tray were some beautiful, colourful, sparkly dragon eggs! We made signs to put next to the eggs to ensure that they were kept safe and warm. We wondered what the dragon inside would look like and then we carefully drew and painted a  picture of it.

On Tuesday Miss Ellen’s eggs hatched and the dragons escaped so we decided that after school on Tuesday I would lock the classroom door to prevent the same happening to our dragons. Well, I am sure that you know what happened - even though I locked the door the dragons hatched and escaped. The mummy - or daddy - dragon left big footprints all over the windows as he opened them! All that was left were some empty shells! We soon decided that we needed to go and look around the school to see if we could find our baby dragons. We tiptoed quietly around looking carefully for signs of them. We found lots more fragments of eggshell - but no dragons. The children then decided that they needed to ask for help and the best way to do that was to write a letter or make a sign.

When we got back to class we designed our LOST posters. We thought about what information we needed to put on the posters before making them.

Keep an eye out for them on display around the school soon - and keep a look out for those dragons!

Book Week is just around the corner….

After weeks of anticipation and frantic costume making, Book Week is finally just around the corner!  There are lots of things going on in school and some competitions running that the children might want to get involved in at home.  Teachers will be steering children towards those that are particularly appropriate for their yeargroups but you can find all of the information here.  If you are a keen baker and want to show off your talents, there is even a Book Week Bake Off to get involved in - the only stipulation being we need to have photographs of the children helping to bake the cake as part of the entry.

Wake Up Shake UP

Just a reminder that Wake up Shake up with Miss Cassie is still running on Monday mornings at 7:30 in the Red Room.  All children who attend win a house point. This is open to all KS1 and Reception children and any parents that would like to join.
