Last week St. Andrews High School students celebrated High School Book Week by taking part in fun book-themed activities hosted by our English Department.
The festivities got off to an energetic start on Monday with Mr Simon’s famous Great Book Run Around Quiz. St. Andrews High School students of all ages faced off in a fast-paced game designed to test their literary knowledge. Cheers and groans erupted from the drama studio as contestants were knocked out round by round, with the last students standing winning book vouchers.
In the middle of the week Mr. Sam hosted the final of the KS3 Countdown Challenge. All KS3 students took part in the qualifying rounds and four pairs contested the nail-biting final. Also on Wednesday Ms. Astrid ran a special mobile library service near the deli to showcase the new and intriguing titles available at the St. Andrews library.
On Thursday our bravest and most lyrical High School students took to the stage and presented their own poems to a lively audience at the Spoken Word Poetry Slam. Congratulations to all performers - it made for an exciting lunch break.
For many, the highlight of Book Week this year was Friday's Book Character Day; many, many members of our High School came to school dressed as favourite fictional characters. There were some fantastic costumes and everyone had fun trying to guess the novels behind the outfits.
Books and reading have innumerable benefits for children and adults alike. Not only does reading help develop language skills, it sharpens focus, memory and concentration, sparks creativity and reduces stress. St. Andrews High School students certainly had a lot of fun during Book Week, so don't delay - start reading today!
With the goal of providing meaningful help to the flood victims in the northern regions of Thailand, our entire community at St Andrews Bangkok came together to raise funds and donations for the affected families. In the span of a few short weeks, added to donations of food and clothing, we managed to raise an astounding total of 386,676.50 THB in donation funds. To all students, teachers, parents, and staff who participated in our efforts and contributed to this cause—thank you!
