Our Approach To Early Years Education

Our approach to KG education is rooted in a deep understanding of child development and a commitment to providing a stimulating and nurturing environment. Our Early Years program follows the IBPYP framework that promotes inquiry-based learning, using this our teachers design a learning environment that allows for meaningful and engaging learning through play, student-led and adult-facilitated experiences.

Key Features Of Our Early Years Program

We offer two main learning streams, one of them being bilingualism. This is where English and French/German are given equal value, children learn simultaneously in these two languages. Our co-teaching approach means the French/German and English teachers plan together and develop an integrated curriculum to ensure the content taught in each language is complementary to each other. Bilingualism is designed to offer learners the chance to develop international-mindedness and to help broaden their skills and capabilities to acquire the information needed to access other cultures. This benefits the students academically, culturally, socially, emotionally and physically. The other learning stream we offer is the IB STEAM, in these classes English is the language of instruction, however, students do have the opportunity to choose French or German as an additional language. With this learning stream, there is more of a focus on the arts, math, science and design, which is embedded into the creation of the learning environment and learning experiences.

● Student-Centred Learning Experience: Student voice, choice and ownership are part of the learning experience promoting reflection, action and metacognition. Throughout learning, students are facilitated to apply their knowledge, understanding and skills to meaningful action-taking. The students will develop attributes towards being lifelong learners by learning to become: knowledgeable, inquirers, reflective, principled, acting, open-minded, risk-takers, balanced, thinkers and communicators.

● Inquiry Driven Curriculum: At SISD we deliver a curriculum that is driven by inquiry. Teaching and learning from all subject areas is through inquiry, all our teachers are inquiry teachers. This type of learning will help to grow the skills and dispositions to: research, collaborate, communicate, think and self-manage.

● Multilingual & Multicultural Environment: Students thrive in a multilingual and multicultural environment as this provides a variety of opportunities academically, socially, culturally, physically and emotionally.

● Strong parent-teacher partnership: We believe that strong parent-teacher partnerships are essential for a child's success. To achieve this there are three forms of conferences a year: parent, student and teacher meetings, parent and teacher meetings and student-led meetings. Parents also are invited into the classroom to share the learning experience, this is done through mini-exhibitions. We also use, report cards, guest speakers, parent forums and class parents to ensure we have a strong relationship with all parents at SISD.
