IB CURRICULUM MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME (MYP)

Following flexible language pathways, our International Baccalaureate (IB) Middle Years Programme (MYP) learners immerse themselves in themed units of inquiry across eight subject areas. As well as providing an outstanding academic education, our secondary school in Dubai prepares each student for the demands and opportunities of the 21st century – and the challenge of the IB Diploma or IB Career-related Programme.

THE IB MIDDLE YEARS PROGRAMME (MYP)

Our Grades 6-10 students follow the Middle Years Programme (MYP). The International Baccalaureate (IB) MYP is a challenging but rewarding IB curriculum that encourages students to make practical connections between their studies and the real world. It provides an outstanding academic education, with learning taught through eight subject groups.


The MYP also focuses on the development of the 10 IB Learner Profile attributes. By focusing on broader skill development and transdisciplinary knowledge, your child will create their own journey to success at Diploma level and beyond. They’ll also explore global issues, becoming a culturally aware, creative thinker with an international mindset.

OUR MYP PATHWAYS

At SISD, we offer four separate language pathways through the MYP.

French and English pathway
Following our bilingual French and English pathway, students study English language and literature and French language and literature. French is the language of instruction for two other subjects. Learners also study Arabic.

German and English pathway
On our bilingual German and English pathway, learners study English language and literature and German language and literature. German is the language of instruction for two other subjects. Students also study Arabic.

English language pathway
Following our English language pathway, learners study English language and literature, language acquisition (French or German), and Arabic. English is the language of instruction for all other subjects.

Swiss Matura
Grade 6-8 students who plan to study for their Swiss Matura follow our bilingual German and English pathway, which is adapted to include French language acquisition.

GRADES 9 AND 10

SPECIALIST IB CURRICULUM PROJECTS

In the final two years of the MYP IB curriculum, our secondary school students have the chance to specialise in their chosen areas of study. The Community Project in Grade 9 and Personal Project in Grade 10 demonstrate our learners’ knowledge, skills, and reflective processes, culminating in an action or product. This helps them to prepare for the challenges and opportunities of the multi-disciplinary IB Diploma or IB Career-related Programme.

Inquiry and analysis 
Our bilingual learners explore themed topics spanning the IB Individuals and Societies unit, focusing on inquiry, analysis, and critical thinking. Our Grade 9 and 10 students, meanwhile, immerse themselves in their MYP personal and community projects.

Essential exam prep 
Our precocious performing arts students enjoy drama and dance sessions in our specialist studios, as they work towards their LAMDA exams. Designated study periods give each learner the time and space to revise, research, and work on projects.
