A blog written by Ms Kelly Heasley, Deputy head of Early Primary
In Early Primary children are taught phonics daily. Why? Phonics is a method of teaching children to read. It works by breaking words down into their individual sounds, the more sounds we know the more words we can read!
At Regents we recognise that knowing phonemes makes reading simpler, increases confidence and instills a love of reading from an early age. We begin teaching the different phases of phonics in Nursery, building on these skills each year.
Look out for our phonics workshops for parents if you would like to learn more about how and why we teach phonics.
