Regents Pattaya invited to Young Round Square Conference, Tasmania Just when we thought it might be nice to have a conference of some type for local Primary Schools, along comes Scotch Oakburn College with an invitation to visit their beautiful campuses in Tasmania for a Young Round Square Conference.

Just when we thought it might be nice to have a conference of some type for local Primary Schools, along comes Scotch Oakburn College with an invitation to visit their beautiful campuses in Tasmania for a Young Round Square Conference. Aimed at 11 to 12 year old students from Round Square Schools in the Australasian region, the conference will be based on the importance of working together and making connections with others following the theme ‘No One’s an Island’.

The conference has an exciting and active programme which includes our very own Kurt Hahn Award winner, Poppy Mulford in Year 10, who has the honour of being invited as a Keynote Speaker and Barazza Leader for the duration of the conference as well as continuing for a further 3 weeks there on exchange.

The Regents delegation, all from Year 6, will be treated to experiences in both rural and urban settings during both the conference and pre-conference. At the Outdoor Education centre, Valley Campus in the Fingal Valley, they will take part in team building activities, a high ropes course and water sports. Whilst in the urban setting of the Elphin and Penquite Campuses they will learn about and make connections with the Island State of Tasmania as well as celebrating and exploring the IDEALS incorporating environmental challenges and service opportunities.

Unfortunately Maya Wyrwa has had to drop out at after breaking her leg… but still the delegation that she even helped to form will go boldly and bring back wonderful stories and souvenirs.

Who are these intrepid explorers?

Mehar, in 6T, loves the outdoors so she is looking forward to the exciting activities that will push her out of her comfort zone at their outdoor education centre. She wants to know what it feels like to be far away from her parents for more than a week as she’s never done that before. Whilst there she thinks she’ll learn what it will be like to be in meetings, interacting with other people to complete tasks and discuss important issues.

EJ, in 6S, loves animals and will miss her pets but is looking forward to travelling around a part of Australia and seeing new animals in Tasmania. She is hoping to learn interesting things and make new friends from different countries. Travelling to a distant country without her family will be a challenge but she’s still looking forward to the new culture and exciting experience.

Doy, in 6P, is looking forward to meeting other people and finding out what they think about, how they live and what their culture is like and write this all down in her diary. She wants to find out what it will be like to travel so far away without her parents and learn about independence. She’s going to try to be confident and communicate with everyone she meets so that she can collect other people’s thoughts and opinions which will help her learn about her life in the future.
