Dear Parents,
Last week, I was thrilled to see so many of our parents join us for our Primary Sports Day at a new venue. With a glorious Hong Kong Spring day split between Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, it promised to be an amazing event… and it certainly lived up to all expectations!
All whole school large-scale events reflect the interactions between our whole school community. The planning, organisation and mobilising of over 1000 people is a big undertaking! We achieved this thanks to our excellent P.E. Team led by Ms. Newman, a big thanks to our PTA, and great our Facilities, Marketing, Teachers and TLAs.
At NAIS Hong Kong, we believe that fostering strong connections between our community through sports events and classroom learning is vital for children’s holistic development. There is much research that highlights the profound impact of community engagement and physical activity on academic achievement, wellbeing, and social skills.
We can recognise that Sports Days are highly engaging, fun events that encourage sports for all — they promote teamwork, resilience, and healthy lifestyles. Beyond the single day events, recent research (UK Department of Education, 2019) emphasises that physical activity can improve concentration, behaviour, and attainment of children. By encouraging our children to be active, we are helping them to develop key life skills while strengthening bonds with peers, teachers, and families.
I hope that at NAIS Hong Kong, through strong relationships with our PTA and our parent workshops, it is apparent that community connections play a crucial role in education. In reference to further research, the Education Endowment Foundation (A UK independent charity dedicated to promoting effective learning for all) notes that parental and community involvement in a child’s life can boost learning outcomes.
Events such as our Primary Sports Day provide opportunities for families to fostering a shared sense of belonging. Together, we continue to create a nurturing, active, and connected community where every child thrives.
Finally, your presence at school events such as Sports Day, The Spring Fair or Class Assemblies, not only supports your child but also reinforces the collaborative spirit that makes our school special. Ahead of the term break, thank you for your support. The holiday is a great time to reflect, reset and re-energise ahead of the final term.
