Secondary Campus Weekly Update

Secondary Campus Weekly Update - Secondary Campus Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

Last week was filled with excitement and achievement as our students showcased their hard work and talents across the school.

A real highlight of the week was the fantastic performance by our Key Stage 3 students in the production of Lord of the Flies. Their creativity and talent shone through, and it was a joy to witness their hard work come to life on stage. Thank you to all the families and friends who joined us for two wonderful nights of theatre.

At the end of the week, we were delighted to host informative talks from guest speaker Jonathan Taylor linked to staying safe online. I am sure that many of you have watched the Number 1 Netflix mini-series ‘Adolescence’. As we navigate the complex world of adolescence with our children, recent media portrayals offer valuable insights for parents. Shows like this highlight the challenges of social media, bullying, and the influence of online communities. It’s crucial for us to maintain open communication with our children, monitor their online activities, and ensure they have a healthy understanding of relationships and intimacy. By staying informed about current trends and fostering emotional intelligence, we can better support our children through these formative years. Together, we can help our children thrive in today’s digital landscape.

Last Friday, we warmly welcomed Jonathan Taylor from BeSafe Online to the Secondary campus. He delivered a series of informative sessions to staff, parents and students about remaining safe in the ever-advancing digital world. The content of Jonathan’s sessions served as a stark reminder that we are all responsible for taking the appropriate steps to protect ourselves online.

To keep this incredibly important conversation going at home about the possible dangers of the web, and if you would like to learn more about the information shared with your child, please visit his website here.

CodeHers 2025 – Inspiring the Next Generation of Women Tech Leaders! – Omar Fall & Nettie Blest

The Computer Science department is thrilled to share the exciting news of our students’ participation in the recent CodeHers 2025 event! It was a truly inspiring day that brought together young girls from across 41 different international and local schools in Hong Kong and the GBA (Greater Bay Area) with the shared goal of encouraging more young women to explore the fascinating world of Computer Science and STEAM. The atmosphere was buzzing with curiosity, enthusiasm, and a real passion for learning.

Events like CodeHers play a vital role in breaking down gender stereotypes and showcasing the incredible opportunities available in technology fields. By providing hands-on experiences and connecting students with inspiring role models, these events ignite a spark of interest and empower young girls to envision themselves as future innovators and leaders in STEAM. The sheer scale of the event, with students from numerous schools coming together, highlights the growing enthusiasm for these subjects.

Our students were particularly enthusiastic about the diverse range of workshops on offer. One of our Year 7 students, Kristen Y, “really enjoyed the Making a MicroBit Pet activity and learning how to create her own app. Although unsure if it would influence her future career, she clearly had a fantastic time!” Another Year 7 student, Caitlin Y, also “found making an app a memorable experience and gained valuable coding skills using Scratch”.

The depth and variety of the workshops truly impressed our students. Sarah R I (Year 10) “thoroughly enjoyed the Neuroscience and AI workshop, which deepened her understanding of technology and further sparked her interest”. Siyu F, in Year 9, learned about AI and even Solved a Murder Mystery through Coding!” She also “valued the opportunity to socialise and make new friends with students from other schools”. Bella C (Year 9) “found learning about AI in healthcare and Coding a Microbit fascinating”. She also attended a Python Wordle workshop and “is keen to participate in more robotics-based workshops next time”.

Also, in Year 9, Eunice F was “captivated by the Quantum Computing and Neural Networks sessions and was so inspired that she is now eager to prepare and offer her own workshop for the next CodeHers 2026 event!” This is the exact kind of enthusiasm and empowerment we hope these events foster.

The CodeHers 2025 event wasn’t just about learning but also about fun and making connections. The students appreciated the chance to engage in hands-on activities, learn new skills, and meet like-minded individuals. The positive feedback we’ve received demonstrates the impact this event has had on our students, encouraging them to explore their potential in the exciting fields of science and technology. We are incredibly proud of their participation and look forward to their continued interest and growth in Computer Science & STEAM!

Match Reports

U14 Boys Badminton

In an exciting match on, the U14 boys badminton team claimed a convincing 3-0 victory against ISF. The team showcased their skills and determination, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and individual prowess throughout the games.

The first match featured Jaxton, who faced a slow start filled with a few uncharacteristic errors. However, he quickly found his rhythm and dominated the game, ultimately winning comfortably with a score of 21-5. His ability to recover and focus was crucial in setting a positive tone for the team.

The first doubles match was a tightly contested affair. Both teams exchanged fantastic shots and some silly errors, keeping the score close. At the change of ends, NAIS held a slight lead, which Tony and Kyson managed to build upon. Their teamwork and strategic play paid off, and they secured the win with a score of 21-12, further solidifying the team's advantage.

In the second singles match, Marcus faced a challenging opponent in a back-and-forth game. Initially, unforced errors allowed his opponent to take control at the change of ends. However, Marcus demonstrated resilience and skill, turning the momentum in his favour. He rallied to secure a 21-13 victory, showcasing his determination and ability to adapt under pressure.

With this win, the U14 boy's badminton team finishes their league games on a high note, eagerly awaiting the playoff draw. Congratulations to the team for their outstanding performance, and best of luck in the next phase of the competition!

U16 Girls Badminton

Confusion reigned when the U16 girls arrived at West Island School to continue their fine start to the badminton season.

West Island school found themselves with 8 teams waiting to play when they only expected 4! Nonetheless play soon started after working out how the games could be organised.

Our girls started off against DSC whom they had beaten only 3 weeks before. Some close games involving both singles and doubles saw a final score of 2-3 in favour of DSC.

Undeterred the team got off to a positive start against ICHK. Winning 2 games of singles and doubles - with some dominant score-lines, the team won 4-1 overall.

Well done to the team for their positivity and standard of play despite some of the team being absent through illness. We look forward to the next fixture on Wednesday!

U16 Boys Badminton

The team headed to ISF this week for their last league matches of the season. However, these were important as they decided where we finished in the league and whether we would make it to the finals.

Our first match started against ISF who we had beaten in a friendly earlier in the season, so the team was confident of the win. However, our opening singles match was tough, and we only narrowly won, but our opening doubles match lost, meaning we were one a piece. We won our second singles but lost the second doubles. Meaning it all rested on the third singles match. It was a tough game, with ISF winning due to unforced errors on our part.

Our second match, again against a team we had beaten in a friendly, was CDNIS. We won the match 3 games to 1, leaving us currently in second place in the table. There are a couple of matches left to play to finalise the places, but we a looking good for making it to the finals. Go Knights!

U20 Boys Badminton

What an exhilarating end to the season for the U20 Boys! They demonstrated remarkable talent against HKA and DC.

In the match against HKA, Kyle dominated in the 1st singles, and paired with Marcus, they secured the 1st doubles, putting NAISHK ahead 2-0. Although Harold and Kennie fought hard, two narrow losses tied the score at 2-2. With pressure on Devin in the 3rd singles, he rose to the occasion, clinching the win and finalizing the match at NAISHK 3; HKA 2.

Against DC, Kyle and Marcus again delivered strong performances, but Harold faced a tough opponent and lost. With one win needed, Kennie and Nathan battled hard but couldn't secure the victory, resulting in another deadlock. Devin stepped up for a thrilling match, staying neck-and-neck with his opponent, but a few late unforced errors led to a narrow loss of 18-21.

While the playoffs slipped away, the team’s spirit and sportsmanship were commendable. We are very proud of their performance this season. Goooooo Knights!
