Secondary Campus Weekly Update - Secondary Campus Weekly Update

Dear Parents,

It has been a purposeful and memorable week for Secondary Students. We celebrated Science Week with engaging exploration, marked Pi Day with math-filled fun, honoured International Women’s Day and enjoyed some tasty MFL cookery classes!

This week, our Key Stage 3 production of Lord of The Flies takes the stage. Good luck to Team Drama and the entire cast as they bring this timeless classic to life. We also welcome Jonathan Taylor, founder of BeSafe Online UK on Friday 21st March and look forward to sharing best practice with Parents Students and Staff.

International Women’s Day Assembly/Magazine – Jade Scott

To celebrate International Women’s Day this year, students organised and delivered an enlightening assembly, celebrating the women in our community and beyond. The student-led assembly featured impressive musical performances, speeches, and an animation, all recognising the successes of the women in our lives.

The student publication ‘Women’s Stories’ served as inspiration for several of the assembly features and is a testament to the hard work and impressive writing skills of our students.

It is important that we celebrate International Women’s Day to honour the achievements of women, raise awareness about gender equality, and empower students to take an active role in shaping a more equitable future. All student participants did a wonderful job of bringing this message to the fore.

MFL Cookery Workshops Reflection – Alex Lopes

This week, our Year 8 students had an exciting opportunity to participate in captivating Spanish and French Cooking Workshops, organized in collaboration with the Hong Kong Institute for Languages.

Throughout these workshops, our students had the privilege of taking part in practical cooking sessions and learn how to cook different Spanish / French dishes.
Not only did our students have the chance to learn about Language & Culture, but they were also encouraged to unleash their creativity by cooking traditional country dishes such as Tortilla Española, Gazpacho and Crêpes. Additionally, they savoured the flavours of the food they cooked, truly indulging in an authentic cultural experience.

These workshops provided a remarkable platform for our students to expand their learning beyond the confines of the classroom, engaging in a myriad of activities designed to foster a deep appreciation for diverse cultures and expose them to new vocabulary. We extend our heartfelt gracias and merci to all the students who participated, and we sincerely hope that you enjoyed yourselves!

Match reports

U16 Girls Badminton
Deep breaths, keeping your cool and seizing the moment where the order of the day when the u16 girls' badminton team travelled to Malvern College on Wednesday.

The first fixture against DSC went to plan initially before our opponents found some form in the double's games. Not to be disheartened Summer clinched the final singles game to make it an NAIS 3-2 win.

MCHK got off to the stronger start in our next fixture by winning the first singles game in a nail biter that ended 21-19. Alyssa made easy work of her opponent in the second singles to leave the fixture well poised. Our doubles form not being at its usual high standards meant Summer was confronted with another deciding game in the final game. After some deep breaths at the mid-way point and forgetting about being recorded for IGCSE PE - she turned a deficit into a commanding win to seal another 3-2 win.

Well done to all the players for continuing to represent the school with such gusto!

U20 Boys Badminton
The U20 boys faced a challenging afternoon of badminton, eager to compete but struggling to find their rhythm. First opponent up was AIS. In the singles matches, Kyle secured a decisive win, while Cory narrowly lost by two points in 3rd singles, leaving the team at 1-2. The pressure was on to win the next two doubles, but despite showing good team spirit, a lack of communication led to unforced errors and two more losses.

In their match against WIS, the boys aimed for a comeback, with their heads held high they were determined not to leave empty-handed. Kyle excelled in his first seed match, but an injury in the second singles and a loss in the 3rd singles resulted in the Knights being down 1-2 once again as they moved into the doubles matches. The doubles pairs took to the court, with Marcus and Kyle performing well together, sealing a win for the team. A potential win for the boys was on the horizon, however Devin and Kennie struggled with the intensity of which their opponents opened up the game, WIS dominated throughout, and the boys struggled to make a comeback. Final result, WIS 3: NAIS 2.

Despite the setbacks they faced, their determination, resilience, and sportsmanship shone through, representing the NAIS Knights with pride.
