Dear Parents,
I hope you have all received and had a chance to read your child's mid-year report. Please remember, these reports only capture a fraction of the wonderful development and learning your child is experiencing, both personally, academically and socially. If you have any questions or would like to delve deeper into your child's progress, please reach out to your child's class teacher. We are more than happy to discuss any questions you may have.
A big thank you to all our Reception parents for responding to our email regarding campus placement for the upcoming year. Rest assured; we are here to guide you through this decision should you have any lingering questions. I encourage parents to carefully consider your child's development and choose the best path forward them.
Parent Workshop Mathematical Development and ‘Number Sense’
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Mathematical Parent Workshop last Thursday. I hope you found the workshop led by Ms. Millington and Ms. Griffin informative and useful. Learning about Number Sense and how we support young children's mathematical development is fascinating.
The open-ended question ‘So, what have you noticed?’ rather than asking ‘How many?’ encourages children to look closely, make connections, investigate patterns, and develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Through activities that focus on subitising (recognising the number of items without counting) and the use of tools like 5 and 10 frames, children can visualise and comprehend numbers in a tangible way, equipping children with the skills to approach Maths with confidence and creativity.
Following the workshop, parents had the opportunity to observe this approach in action in their child's classroom, observing teachers and interacting with activities that support children's developing ‘Number Sense’. I hope you found this firsthand experience insightful and valuable.
Greening Project
As the weather brightens up, we are gearing up for more activities as part of our Greening Project, in collaboration with our PTA. Children across all age groups are excited to plant, care for, and watch a variety of fruits, vegetables, and herbs grow. This hands-on opportunity provides valuable learning experiences for our students, fostering a love for nature and sustainability.
I look forward to sharing more photographs next week and updates on the different activities taking place as part of our Greening Project with the PTA.
Thank you for your continued support.
Yours sincerely,
Ruth Hanson
