Celebrating University Offers – Susan Holt

Secondary Campus Weekly Update - Secondary Campus Weekly Update

It has been another exciting week in the IB Suite with offers coming in from universities around the world! These include University of Cambridge (UK), University of Toronto (Canada), Monash University (Australia) and Hong Kong University. What is so inspiring is not only the global mindedness of our students applying around the world, but also the range of courses our students apply for pays great testimony to being inspired across all courses in the IB. Course applications have so far included medicine, law, languages, animal science, liberal arts, psychology, costume design, politics, business and so many more.

This week we welcome Kely support group for a workshop with our Year 13s on Safer Party Planning as part of their social and emotional learning.

Random Acts of Kindness Week – Chantelle Thomasson

In the spirit of Valentine's Day and to foster a culture of appreciation, we are excited to announce that this week we are celebrating Random Acts of Kindness for both our staff and students. This initiative aligns with our school's value and focus of kindness this month.

Our IB students will be selling roses that can be purchased by students to send to their friends, accompanied by a note of appreciation. These thoughtful gestures will be distributed at the end of the week, highlighting the importance of acknowledging and valuing one another.

Additionally, during tutor time this week, each student will receive translucent hearts where they can write notes of appreciation to their peers. These hearts will be displayed on classroom windows, along with decorations that reflect our commitment to kindness.

As psychologist Julie Smith reminds us, "small acts of kindness can create a ripple effect, spreading positivity and hope." We believe that these simple, daily acts can have a profound impact on our school environment, fostering connections and a sense of belonging.

We encourage you to discuss the significance of kindness with your child and inspire them to participate in these activities.

Futures Update – Kirsten Smit

Futures lessons in term 1 introduced the students to CAS (a core component of the IB curriculum) and organising class projects to raise funds for a variety of Hong Kong charities who do incredible work in the community.

Our Futures Program is proving to be a huge success! Students have been working hard on their projects to help raise money for their chosen charities. They have demonstrated some excellent teamwork skills within their forms and the comradery amongst the students has been truly excellent to see.

Last week proved to be another productive week on the secondary campus! By holding a competition that required participants to guess the number of sweets in a jar, Y11C raised hundreds of dollars for Sai Kung Stray Friends. An awesome effort that will help many animals in need - well done!

Year 8C held a bake sale to raise funds for Feeding Hong Kong. This project required them to work as a class to bring in an array of treats to sell. They raised $1681.20, which is an amazing contribution to the work that Feeding Hong Kong does in the local area.

A huge well done to all our students for their hard work in giving back to the local community.

Match Reports

Tuesday 4th February

U14 Boys Badminton

The U14 Boys Badminton team had their first matches of the season at Discovery College versus Harrow and Carmel Schools.

Their first match was versus Harrow. Jaxton stepped up into the first match to play his singles game. He dominated the game by winning quite a substantial lead. We won our next two games meaning that out of the five games per match, we won the match.

In the match against Carmel the matches were a lot closer in points, with some games being narrowly lost, causing the team to lose the whole match in the end.

For their first competitive matches of the season the boys should be proud of their efforts and take away the lessons learnt from those games into their training ready for the next ones.

Thursday 6th February

U20 Boys Badminton

The U20 Boys Badminton team kicked off their season with impressive performances against Discovery College and DSC, achieving victories in both matches. They triumphed over DC with a score of 4-1, where the only loss was a closely contested second singles match ending at 17-21. In their second fixtures against DSC, the team dominated with a clean sweep, winning 5-0.
