Dear Parents,
Happy New Year! It has been wonderful to see all the children and staff back, refreshed after the Christmas holidays. We have an exciting three weeks ahead as we prepare for Chinese New Year, celebrating the Year of the Snake.
Today marked the start of our special activities with our Chinese New Year Cooking Day. We were thrilled to have parent helpers join us for this special event! Each class participated in a range of culinary activities: our Nursery children made rice cakes, the Reception classes created sweet rice balls, and our Year 1 students crafted corn dumplings. It was a delight to watch the children enjoy both the creation and tasting of these traditional foods. A heartfelt thank you to our parent helpers and a special shout-out to Ms. Tsang, our Sai Kung Campus caretaker, for her invaluable assistance with the cooking.
School Trips
Despite having just three short weeks until Chinese New Year, we have plenty of fun and engaging learning experiences lined up for the children. This week, both our Reception and Year 1 classes will embark on exciting school trips. Our Reception children will enjoy their annual cultural trip to the Wishing Tree, while our Year 1 students will be visiting a Dinosaur Park to launch their new topic on dinosaurs. We are also looking forward to our Nursery Classes first trip after the Chinese New Year, as they visit the theatre.
Special Visitor
We are delighted to invite you to an informal gathering to meet our new Principal, Tim Richardson, on Thursday 16th January, at 8:30 am at our Sai Kung Campus. This will be a wonderful opportunity to have a chat with him, share your thoughts, and get to know him better over coffee.
Mr Richardson will take up his position in August 2025, so Thursday morning will provide us all with an opportunity to connect with our new Principal and fellow parents.
Chinese New Year Celebration
We are thrilled to announce that on Friday, January 24th, NAIS Hong Kong Preschool will host an exciting Chinese New Year celebration. Students are encouraged to come dressed in traditional Chinese attire or wear red or gold clothing to embrace the festive spirit. We warmly invite all parents to join us for this special morning.
The festivities will kick off at 8:45 am with a captivating Lion Dance performance in the downstairs play area. Following the Lion Dance, each class will showcase one short performance either a song, dance, or drama piece. Additionally, parents and children will have the opportunity to participate in cultural activities, enhancing this wonderful celebration. All activities will be finished by 10:15 am.
We hope to see many of you at this special event—the Lion Dance is always a memorable occasion for our NAIS Sai Kung Community.
Thank you for your continued support, and here’s to a fantastic start to the new year!
Yours sincerely,
Ruth Hanson
Head of Early Years Campus
