A big congratulations to Bomin Kim, Geo Lee, and Yoonseo Oh because they achieved a grant of 800 USD (around 5,000 RMB) from ACAMIS (Association of China and Mongolia International Schools) to promote diversity and inclusion within the community by redesigning the Well-Being Room at Léman. The award and certificate will be cited in the next edition of ACAMIS in Action that will appear about mid-June. Several proposals were sent from around China and Mongolia as service proposals, and Léman was very fortunate to be picked as an outstanding proposal for the ACAMIS grant.
This grant is an extension of the Community Project in Y9 when Bomin, Geo and Yoonseo spent a considerable amount of time decorating and bringing in games and furniture to the Well-Being room. The Community Project is a year-long service project where students complete service learning activities based on their interests. This is a great example of students at Léman showing compassion and empathy for others while being ambitious to support and understand the community around them. Service learning is essential, not just to the MYP and IB, but also for our students. The school promotes the CAS (Creative, Active, Service) program, which supports balance in activities outside regular school classes.
Service learning is about building the students’ understanding of the world around them. Not only does this support a greater world view and compassion for others, but universities also want to see how students showed empathy and compassion towards their communities and environments. These activities help our students gain an edge when they take their next steps after Léman and help build their essential portfolios for university applications.
Congrats again to Bomin, Geo and Yoonseo for their hard work and for their caring attitude towards the school and the community.
